New Rear Shocks for Street Bob - Opinions Wanted

    Howdy All,

Been runing Progressive 440's for the last 2 years. Shocks are barely adequate, not enough adjustability. The bike still bottoms out. Rebound isn't very progressive either. I think the spring rates mightn't be suitable for my type of riding.

Anyway, the main reason for this post is to get your opinion on various other offerings: Fournales, Ikon, Ohlins, YSS and the likes.

    Any info is much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Vlad

Fournales are the best, but talk to I think Ohlins in Albury anbd YSS is Adelaide. If you describe what you are looking for then they may be able to help.

    Thanks Gents.

    Now - the decision time.
Obviously there is a fundamental difference between air shocks such as Fournales and gas/oil combo such as YSS/Ohlins/Penske.
Can anyone comment on ride quality with fournales?
I've called the local importer - $1550 plus freight. Blood expensive if you you ask me. Has anyone got them from overseas?

Stix, I am going to try and maintain stock length, I affraid that going lower will decrease trail too much and cause more scraping.

In regards to my riding - I dont' commute very much on my Harley (gotta carry a toolbox). Mostly weekend riding with the boys. Lots of cornering (not too fast, just comfortable). Lots of miles. (Just did a 3 dayer 1500kms ride to Robe (SA) and back.

It seems that lots of people sign praises to Fournale. Which model have you got Pappa Smurf?

Used to agree with the above... until I gauged a hole in my primary cover in a left.

Been looking into Ohlins, a bunch of guys here have 'em and swear by 'em.

Fournales look better, but it's not always about looks.

    Hey Simo84,
Ohlins are really nice shocks but where do you find them here in Aus?
I don't believe anyone local has ohlins specifically made for Harleys?

    Hi Dave,

Will check your site out, my ride is a Dyna FXDL as well. Your headlight mate......is it Kuryakyn's HID..?  Looks very similar to mine....as below. And did you keep the stock size shock for yours..?  If my memory is correct, the lowrider sits 1"lower than a Superglide.   Many Thanks....!

I'm dealing with Howard at Motorcyclemetal (see post above) to grab a pair of Ohlins for my 07 FXDL. Have heard nothing but good things and so far my experience with Howard has been top notch.

Have a look at the OHLINS. Totally transforms the rear end. Best money I have ever spent

To the above members, consider this;  MY personal mission statement:

I have no built shocks in stock.  I only have or order the parts in to make forks or shocks depending on how the customers personal build sheet requires the equipment to be built.  If there is a special one off, custom build necessary than, if the parts are available to build it, we do.  If you want chrome or custom color anodized shocks, we do them for an enormous fee because it is very labor intensive.  A side note, (in my own opinion only) Öhlins mission focuses or performance and not on eye candy.  There will never be any chrome flame spring covers with LED blinking skull eyes.  I personally prefer the Öhlins yellow springs and billet clear anodized shock body and gold reservoir.  No one can mistake that look and intended purpose of that bikes personality.

There is no better front suspension than the Öhlins 30 mm cartridge kit and the #6 rear shocks anywhere on earth for Harley Davidsons.  They were purposely designed that way by me from the start.

When you go to my site why do you think there are some Öhlins and other products not available any other place on earth?  Look at my Black Dyna, who else has 30 mm Ohlins ready to ship for Harleys as well at the #3 and #6 shocks (IMy idea on both & did the #3 well over 2 years ago, my first shock from Öhlins)?  I design them and others can than buy them for re-sale one year later.  Look at other Öhlins resellers sites and you will see my products being sold a year later there, a set of shocks in a box.  You would have just as much luck ordering a bride out of a book and expect it to work out with today’s divorce laws.  I answer the phone 24/7 with an address listed so you can stop on by if you wish.  I answer all e-Mails usually within the hour or less as I keep my computer on when I am in the shop, check every hour via cell phone, and at home.  When I am not reachable is when I am sleaping, in the shower, in the CNC machine shop (can not here the ring), or some other freak problem one incounters.  I actually ride a bike and test all products I make personally.  If a customer has a problen that I can not figure out and I do not have that bike, I rent one.  MY friends of different weights also get to ride every product I make so I get a different perspective of a different rider on the same model bike.   I guess by now you can guess not all Öhlins shock venders are the same.

I am sorry for my rant but thought you should know.

OHLINS are the go for sure. They come factory set for dynas and just bolt on. Dont forget locktite. The adjustment is 10mm or so either way for one or two up. I also did front with ohlins and bike is stable and you can stay on throttle. No more bottoming out when me and mama hit bridges or bumps she only weighs 14 and a half stone tho ha ha ha

I'm on Ohlins, too. That and Metzler ME880 tires transformed my 07FXD.
