Reduce V&H noise to legal NSW limit?

    I doubt it.

You would be surprised how quiet the bike will have to be to pass the noise test!

Put your standard system back on.......go and have the test, then put the V&h back on.

If you want it legal then only the standard system will do it!

I used to run drag pipes on my old evo with just the tiniest baffle for that little back pressure needed. Come pink slip time I used to jamb up the pipes with tightly wound chicken wire.......and a fair bit of it. Sometimes also added some really coarse steel wool, like those coarse pot scourers.

This used to be enough to get me thru the inspection but if you rode too far with this set up you would cook the motor! Also ran like absolute SHIT! Lost all power!

Like I said, if you want it to be "legal" all the time your gonna have to run the standard" Pfft ..Pfft" pipes/mufflers!

It depends where you live I think.

Down where I am (Southern NSW) the cops don't give a rats. I had a Vstar with VnH pipes that was WAY louder than the Fatty, and the last cop to see it laughed and smiled at how loud it was. Commented that it sounded good for a Jappa.

BUT I know blokes in QLD that get pinged if there bike is louder than the cop can fart - so it is not the same everywhere, that's for sure.

there was an article ages ago in "live to ride" where one of the journos had a column--he was getting hassles from other owners in his complex about his pipes--he had someone make up a butterfly system he fitted into his tail pipe. he could effectively cut off half the exhaust and also had the ability to open the flap up up and have the exhaust fully open--reckons it solved his probs--cheers Grim
