the new bike with the stock seat hurts my butt after a few hours at a time on it and the wife has started gnashing her teeth about it only being a single-seater and so I'm on the hunt for a new double seat.
in an ideal world, it would be easy to remove so that when she says "ANOTHER ride? are you serious? No, I can't face it" I can switch the seats and still maintain the awesome iron single-seater look. I actually like the look of those spring loaded seats, but obviously that's only a single-seater.
So, has anyone put a 2-up seater on an iron? what did you get? can you post a photo? Is it comfy? Can you get a sissy bar for the pillion? where'd you put the pillion pegs?
And finally - did you need to get new shocks? I have the stock-shocks on it at the moment and it's a fairly rough ride on these sydney roads; can't say I've bottomed them out yet but I'm sure I've come close on some of the speed humps dotted around the place.
I've looked at some of the corbin seats - http://www.corbin.com/harley/xl/hdxl7gl.shtml but they sure aren't cheap and I wonder how long it'd take to get em in. Oh, and I think they only make one that would fit the Iron (my Iron that is). They look a bit... big or something too... but you can't see the whole bike in the pics so it's hard to say. I also checked with Custom Motorcycle Seats (my uncle got a crocodile skinned one - nice), but they tell me I have to buy the double seat, then they'll re-shape & re-skin it - for $350+ plus whatever the seat costs, well.. that's a bit more than i was hoping to spend.
Advice/hints/tips much appreciated!
I been thinking the same set up.... Solo spring seat most the time, with the occasional weekend 2up.
Just starting looking at different styles. Hadn't thought about shocks.

A couple of good examples that I think look pretty cool, especially the first one set up as a full tourer. Looks very military. These are off an Iron 883 site on Facebook which has heaps of photos. Note the rear shocks on the second one.
