Have installed V+H straightshots slip ons. Rode 200 klm home and had ringing ears. What is everyones opinion? The loader the better yee haa. Or its a pain in the a%*&e with the pi pes dronning away all day. Any advice on a good pipe thats load but not barking.Wear earplugs? Harden up dont be a wuss.No seriously any thoughts?Cheers.                                        Well gidday all. Did about 500klm over the weekend and the v+h slip ons have to go. Sound great when cranking on the power but noisey as f^%k when sitting at 110 to 120 cruising speed. Looking out for s+s or se pipes for a quiter sound. More rumble less bark. Any ideas buy the way im in NZ so market limited hence power commander instead of mastertune. But do appreciate your advice. 08 fxdc stage 1 se pciii v+h slip ons ohlins front and rear.

I think you need to do as much research as you can before you part with your money. My pipe is loudish at idle but seems to quiten down at 100+ but if I'm going for a big ride I'll put ear plugs in. In my opinon I reckon glass packed  baffles are better then mechanical baffles any day.

I have the VnH Big Radius and have the baffles in. When I crank it up, they bark like a bastard, but when cruising at 110, you don't know they are there.

I wear plugs on a long ride because of wind noise rather than pipes. I rode on mates sports bike the other week without plugs and my ears were still ringing from the wind.

I think most of the time mate its the wind not the pipes that kill your ears.

    Just my 0.2

Sounds woosy but wear the plugs. Always. Ask anyone on this forum with bad tinnitus and they'll tell you they wish that they had. Permanent damage and the ringing can drive you crazy.

Well after years of riding loud bikes I now have S & S SPO mufflers on my Roadking that are glass packed. They produce a more "60's muscle car rumble" that are softer on the ears.

After years of riding and work I know suffer from Industrial Deafness which now makes it imposibe to listen to somebody where there's background noise such as a busy pub or nightclub.

Look after your hearing I say, you only get one set of ears.

Use ear plugs mate. I bought a peanut helmet recently and the with the earplugs in I get almost no wind noise and can barley hear the exhausts which are short shots. I now wear ear plugs even with a full open face helmet.

My mate has V&H Slipons on a CVO 110, he said it was way to loud on long trips, he fitted the V&H quiet baffles which only drops the noise level by 3Db but he says it is much easier on the ears now, also sounds better with a deeper rumble now.
