New Open Face Helmet......

Tried posting this question last night and the Internet played up and I lost the lot, so here goes again:-

I know we have discussed Open Faced V's Full Face Helmets in here, but my question is about the Open Face variety. I need to replace my current plain matt black lid as it's getting a bit tatty and I heard that you should replace all helmets after 5 years. This is also the case for Safety Helmets that are worn in a lot of industry. Well we do where I work anyway. Don't remember the brand of my helmet, but it has been comfortable. The treasurer/passenger has a KBC helmet and she is happy with that and it looks okay.  Anyway the question is,

What brand of helmet do you wear, or have you bought a new helmet lately?  If so, what brand/make did you buy?  Is it value for money etc and does it look OK when you are wearing it? Is it light enough and what's the wind noise like? etc etc.

    Cheers TC

    Hey twincam

I have four open face helmets and Just got my new one on tuesday , i looked at all the brands and it took 4 weeks to make a decision , i went with RJays it's very comfortable and you can take the inside's out to wash , it had a big skull on the back but sandpaper and a can of spraypaint fixed that . there worth a look .

    Happy hunting

I think what helmet you choose comes down to what sort of head you have ..shape that is

I have an RJAY's helmet and it does the job ... wind noise is there and I believe it would be at the same level of noise for any open face helmet

certain style of helmet I simply cannot wear due to the boofhead shape of my noggin ... I sort of care what it looks like on the head but in the end, if I am lucky, I dont have to look at myself with it on

but the most important issue I think is safety before looks

In the past I have found Rjays to be the best. Have Rjays and RXT...

I have been looking around lately too and I have found that the THH fits best... and the worst is the Shoei open face (for my nogin anyway)

I just bought a RJays for the cook to wear last week as she didnt like the full face helmet I had as a spare, after wearing it she will have to wear the old open face helmet as she is not getting this one!!, the wind noise has gone and the noise has been cut right down. It doesnt  want to ride up your forehead when you twist the throttle like the old one.

I have a few open face helmets.I have a HJC which doesn't suit my head shape and puts pressure on the top of my forehead,it is also large and heavy.I have a R Jays helmet, which is actually made by KBC,it is ok,but a bit heavy and wants to be ripped of my head at any sort of speed.I have a Nolan N30,they call it a retro look,it is black and had cream stripes on it,and also a visor, find it quite comfortable and the visor is good in the rain, and is UV resistant. But the most comfortable is my good old novelty helmet, even though it lets in lots of wind noise.

I'm old and soft I guess as I go for function over form these days and mostly wear a full face (especially in winter).

My open face though  is an Arai classic (an older one of these www.ridersdiscount.com/street-gear/helmets-open-face/28174.php) is very comfortable and strong. It does have the lightbulb-head effect though as it is big.

I'd suggest stay away from fibreglass and go with fibre-laminate or tri-composite construction as I've seen fibreglass shells split like coconuts.
