    Hi guys

Has anyone self installed genuine HD forward controls on a 06/07 street bob ?

I just purchased the kit, and after reading the instructions, im comcerned on the removal & replacement of the primary cover

Is it something that can be done at home or should i leave it to the pro's ?

Any pointers would be greatly appriciated

The earlier kit came with a chromed cap which covers the shaft through the primary, so you can leave it in without breaking the primary and a braket wheich secured the shaft so it doesn't rattle around, this is what I fitted to my 07 superglide.

The later kit their later changed this by getting you to break the primary and remove the shaft and then plug the holes

a lot of people use a hacksaw blade to cut through the linkage behind the inner primary, takes ages but works. It only takes about 20minutes to pull the whole primary off. the whole clutch basket comes off in one peice, get a manual though, will make it easier, the main nut on the clutch is reverse thread, and you need to lock the sprockets or use a ratchet gun to undo the nuts.

I did the entire install myself apart from the primary removal. Took it to local Peter Stevens. It took them 30 minutes to remove the primary, take out the linkage and plug the hole. All for $50 bucks.
Glad I've spent the money, hate cutting things unnecessarily.

I got a quote from the local Harley dealership... Its dearer to fit the controls than buy the parts

left the shaft, made a cover for the spline, made a hidden bracket to hold the linkage out of the way, took about an hour all up... piece of piss

will pull the shaft out when/if the primary ever has to come apart
