Fitted a lot of S&S carbs over the years and they are great but, I must say I am using a Mikuni HSR 42 and its damn good carby as well. Probably does not answer your question but you would not go wrong with either one.

    Hey Tweeds,

Depends what you want from the bike, also what frame & gearbox has the bike got?

With  the carbs there are lots of different carbs out there. a 96 cubic inch shovel needs more air to get full performance than the E gives, the E seems like a big carb but has a small venturi, the G is a bit better, the s&s B with adjustable air bleed  is a good carb if tuned right, the s&s D is good too but bloody hard to ride on the street with. i've never used Mikuni's onlu on dirt bikes but some people love them, the old SU was good but you have to tune them a lot, the CV 44 or CV51 would be good but don't look as good on a shovel. the old S&S L has a clasic look. do you want to go fast or just look good?

    cheers
