    Sorry Fellas.

The owners manual spells it out loud and clear!........."corrosion of these components is not considered to be a defect in materials or workmanship"

Stainless spokes are the only way to go!

I'm currently getting the bike assessed, but they are now saying you are not supposed to ise silicon on the spokes, but clean them with an onyx product. They have also said that the spokes on all Harleys are stainless steel and because they are a 'wear and tear' item the chances of replacements are zip.

Whilst I'm sitting here stewing on this, I would appreciate any thoughts on this and whether it's a lost cause or not......

why then if all spokes on all harleys are stainless steel mine have rusted so bad ,if this is so looks like i have wasted money buying a new set of stainless steel spokes

HD replaced some of the rusted wheels on early Nightsters. Maybe they were getting so many they've gotten tougher. Stainless definitely rusts. Take a look at a lot of stainless BBQs around. There are a couple of grades of stainless but even the best ones deteriorate.

yep my nightster rims were toast after only 8 months  .......HD didn't want to know or seem to care ......that's one of the reasons I got rid of it & got a bike with alloys .......

..... & why I did not go back to that dealer for it .....

They have also said that the spokes on all Harleys are stainless steel !!!! What an absolute load of garbage.Harley spokes are not stainless steel and they are not chrome, they have a cheap (something like zinc) coating. It's very easy to check if they are stainless or not, simply get a magnet and see if it will stick too them or not.A magnet will NOT stick too stainless steel!! I would not let that dealer service my wheelbarrow.JMO Cheer's WAZ!!

Every Harley i see with chrome spoked wheels is starting to rust or already has. It's just the quality of the future.

As far as I'm aware Harley have never used stainless spokes just chrome plated bright steel. From what I have been told by some of the old guys is that normal steel spokes actually hold tension better than stainless..

i agree with the the brake dust that is the problem ,i put a new set of aftermarket wheels and all sorts of other chrome on my bike two years ago(on going)and my spokes and foot pegs are worst on the brake side ,butt if you run lyndell z it does reduce this problem ,wish i new this 2 years ago only changed 6 mths ago  + shit chrome i have all so had new parts that are rusting when you pull them out of there box and only made 8 mths before

Just noticed rust spots starting to appear on the spokes of my sporty. Its just over a year old and better looked after than my kids. Pretty pissed off considering the care and attention it gets. Noticed the SE clips ons showing the odd spot too. What do they coat the stuff with, fucking vegimite ?

I follow the manual religiously in cleaning the wheels every week. Polished aluminium - trouble in the making.

If you get the spokes replaced the new one's will rust anyway. Oh yeah, have they run the line by you that says they will only replace one item of chrome ?? Wackers and Sunshine Coast Harley used that one on me.

Trouble with chrome spokes is..........spokes will flex- chrome don't like to flex too much! That and the brake pad dust is always gonna give you rust problems.

I can see where your coming from re the warranty issues, good luck on that!

The best solution for me would be stainless spokes (buy quality ones).........ran em on my last bike for ten years, all they really ever got was a quick wipe over with the sponge when washing the bike. Never looked like rusting, and I live on the coast! Always looked shiny!

Sportys gone now, got a new 2010 SuperGlide and same bloody problem with rusting spokes !

I use windex to clean most of the bike incl wheels,  mothers chrome polish to get the rust off the spokes,

Its a time consuming annoying job that shouldnt need to be done,
