lookin at yahoo this morning and come across this story, takes me back 30 + year ago and a 4x4 turning taking me with him.
A motorcyclist died after a collision with a four-wheel drive being driven by a 92-year-old man in Sydney's northwest, police say.
Officers are still trying to piece together how the accident unfolded, but say the vehicles were travelling in opposite directions on a West Ryde road ahead of the 11.25am (AEDT) smash on Tuesday.
The driver of the four-wheel drive may have been trying to make a right-hand turn from Victoria Road into Adelaide Street, police said.
Following the crash it left the road and smashed into a nearby brick fence.
Paramedics treated the 28-year-old motorcyclist at the scene but he later died at Westmead Hospital.
Both vehicles were seized for mechanical examination.
every afternoon on the radio on the traffic report there's always a rider down some where , 4 wheel drives + moblie phone's " the new volvo " you can't chance nothing with them ,
How come everyone is so quick to jump on the bandwagon of "get the old guys off the road" without knowing the circumstances? Who knows, it might have been the riders fault, which would make it totally irrelevant whether the guy in the 4wd was 92 or 22!. Remember not every motorcycle accident with a car is the car drivers fault, there are quite a few dickhead riders out there, I see them every day on my way to work. I have seen a lot of older drivers who are excellent drivers and I have seen a lot of younger drivers who are absolutely atrocious drivers! So do we take all the younger drivers off the road too!! FFS lay off the older drivers a bit. I feel a hell of a lot safer in the car with my 87yo Father-in-Law than I do with my 26yo work partner! And thats a fact! I try to drive the work van whenever I can, because he is absolutely shocking and downright dangerous! It amazes me how many hypocrites there are out on the road, with people abusing and honking the older drivers because they might be a bit slower sometimes, but I can guarantee, that if someone abused their grandfather in the same way, they would be the first to want to jump up and smash em! Total hypocrites!
