People incase you haven't watched the finance news lately....Aussie dollar riding at around 98 -96 cents against Uncle Sam. I've been quoted around $650 for new rear shockies from my local stealer...just picked them up on the net from a US dealer for $330 delivered!!

Also been looking at Wiley X sunnies for about $230 locally, a quick look at US sites shows I can get them for about half that..good time to buy with summer around the corner!!

I will agree with some, and disagree with others.

I have a business in a different industry than bikes, and like bikes, a lot of the gear I sell can also be had overseas. What I get cranky with are guys in my industry screaming that customers are shopping overseas instead of Aussie shops, but are then happy to cash in on the high dollar and not pass those savings on. That shits me. (not saying anyone here does that - dont get me wrong)

If the dollar goes up and I can buy goods cheaper... well... my prices go down. Simple. Yes, you can probably still buy them a little cheaper from USA, but I hope the level of service I provide is worth paying for.

It is a double edged sword. Some win with a high dollar, and some lose. Same applies when it goes down... Some win, some lose. HOWEVER, if you are going to base your business model on the dollar being at a certain level and you can't adjust for when it changes, you are in trouble.

One thing I have learnt from the 20 years I have run my business.... If you can't shift with the times, you are doomed.

    Just my 0.2

    Cheer all

Was watching the dollar this morning and was at 99.93 cents.

All the experts reckon it will reach parity ( aus$1 for us$1) by middle of next week.

    Hey Robbers,

I am with you there re petrol companies. How come when the dollar was lower, and the price of oil was something like $160 a barrel, was petrol not tat much more expensive as it is now? Something tells me that when oil prices came down, the profits went up.

Going by the current AUD we should now be able to buy Harleys at the same price the yanks do with a couple of k added for shipping?  We wish.

Regardless of the value of the $A we pay about twice what the U S harley riders do for the same bike.
It just $hits me that we are always the suppliers of the vaseline.

if your business relies on a weak Aussie dollar, as many do!..............then sometimes you gotta ride out the tough times!................just like everybody else has to do most of the time!

The dollar being high is not all bad. Remember, things get cheaper to buy when the dollar is high. I don't remember seeing any TV manufacturers in Australia.

Remember, most of what we consume is bought OS. Hence some things get cheaper.

Most seem to focus on the negatives, but there are also some positives. Let's keep in it perspective.

currently 1.092.... see it going even higher as US Domestic policy is going to remain the same until at least the end of June.
