hi, i want to update my stock air cleaner with either a K&N air cleaner, or a K&N custom air assembly RK3929 ( i know its expensive), my bike has SE III slipons and no other mods, i want to keep the stock air cleaner cover and so don't want a heavy breather etc,. Will i need to have the ECM modified or will both of these simply bolt on? I have searched but havent found a simple answer. Thanks..
The K&N 3929 is a high flow kit so you will need to have something to adjust ecm to run preoperly. I too wanted to keep the stock air cover on my iron 883 so I bought the K&N 3929 kit but I didn't think it was expensive at all? Got it from M&M cycles in the states was $242AUD delivered (back in March this year). I have V&H straighshot slipons and I also got the V&H fuelpak ($220AUD deliverd from M&M). Bike runs great, couldn't be any more happy. The k&n is really neat and fits well. The fuelpak couldn't be more simple to install and configure and in my opinion is a great value for money if your not interested in all the fancy computers and just want something so your bike runs properly with the increased air flow! Oh, also with the 3929 kit your air cover will sit out about an inch or so more than stock.
thanks djs, that sounds the way to go, also if the cleaner air cover sticks out an inch, does the filter get wet in the rain???
Hey, well the stock plastic backing is removed and the back of the filter is open but is mostly tucked under the cover. So potentially yes it could get wet but I don't think very easily... maybe of you were riding in extremely heavy rain?
I have a pic of it for you but the site won't let me attach it... will try again tonight.
