Hi lads just want to ask is it safe to be holding the throttle at like 6000 rpm because i ride a 07 sporty and am worried im going to damage the engine while v tuning?  and also after my first v tune the map only says ive hit throttle positions below about 40 per cent even though ive held it at full throttle but im am worried about holding it in high revs for too long and advice would be appreciated thanks.

I am with you mate. I am not going to be revving the guts out of my $32,000 ride, but there are some here that will tell you that the rev limiter will protect you.

I don't ever see me hitting 6000rpm on the road, so I won't be doing it on my Vtune runs either.

But don't let me sway you, just make up your own mind dude. Good luck.

    Cheers
    Mongrel

You wont hurt the engine one bit sitting at 6k revs . Your Sporty will take more punishment than that.

If your not going to run the motor that high when riding then it really doesn't matter for tuning at that high of RPM. If you are going to run it up there then you need to tune it up there

yeah i do rev my bike pretty hard some days but prob only to maybe 5000 if that i dont have a tacco so not totally sure but going off the graphs for my v tune data run i got it to like 4900 so yes i am aware if im going to be riding at them high rpms then ill have to tune it there but generally its only at lower than that so thats what ill try stick to so thanks everyone for the comments will let everyone know how i go with my other v tunes

yeah my bike has almost 23000 ks on the clock so its well worn in and i always always warm up my engine b4 riding as i am keeping this bike for a long time, i have a canned map and have done 1 v tune run and blended the maps so hopefully these days off ill do another 2 runs dependant on the weather as its been shitty rainy weather here for the last like 2 weeks, and i have to do most of the runs and revs in 2nd as il be speeding at them high revs even in 2nd

    Hi Oz,

I understand you have a wealth of experience in this area, but I never ride my bike that hard, so I see no need to do it during a Vtune. You are probably right in saying that the bike will handle revving that hard - but I don't see the need for me is all.

Each to their own I guess.

Robo - No - No Dyno for me mate. Not going to pay my stealer to thrash my scoot. I can do that on my own. :)
