What helmet do you wear.

I thought I would start a thread on this topic as I couldn't find much about helmets on this forum.

I started with a Rjays open face 3/4 but found that with it's "mushroom" like profile, at speed the wind would be trying to rip my head off.  I now have a vintage 1971 Auther Fulmer open face which is great, apart from the wind noise.  My main concerns are that it's not A/S approved and more importantly how well it would perform in a crash.

Would love to hear your thoughts on which brands/styles etc you prefer.

KBC open face which at 10 year old is probably past it's use by date but has been a very good comfortable helmet.

New NEX open face which is comfortable & light enough with a lot less noise than the older KBC.

2 x Arai Profile (Sinister) full face helmets. Arai are the only full face that suit me & don't give me a headache. Not cheap but you get what you pay for.

Spent over 25 years with open faces of all varieties and usually the cheapest versions ( $50 helmet for a $50 head????).

Considering some comfort these days an looking at the Nolan N41, it has the screen. Heard nothing but good about these for comfort and user friendly as the old fogged glasses and saturated rag around the face in torrential rain may be the way of the past for those long trips.

Tried some on and the vision seems OK

    Hi Guys

Being on the wrong side of 55yrs old I wanted some comfort and have just bought a HD Jet 11 helmet with a flip up visor.

We did 1000klms on long weekend (500 each way) and I found it to be excellent,no rattling, no visor blowing up at speed and it does not try to pull your head off at Freeway speeds. At the end of each days ride my eyes are not roadmaps and rain is not a problem for the eyes.

Should have done it years ago.

    Phil.

Aussie XB12SS, I had a look at the NEX open face on Ebay, my local doesn't carry them, they look pretty good. Are they a bit lower profile then the Rjays etc? How are they are speed, does the wind try and suck it of your head?

Have had  special Nolan  for nearly a year(after 20years on the Open)does both OF or FF Flat black, light weight, don't really care about noise and other shit seems OK in these areas.

Does have proper clip instead of those stupid rings so easy to do up, and my teeth will be happy now that wayward rocks can no longer threaten them..

And don't ask me where I bought it,,cause I won't tell ,, I don't want you buggers buying one,  if you do,, then I won't be the only one to have one and all my Cred will be lost forever!!!!!!!

My helmet looks like a skull cap the noise level is intense but it doesnt try to pull you of the bike at 100km and best of all its legal now that i have put a sticker on it

Anyone know if the DOT system is okay for Australia? Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, a google search produced nuffink.

I reckon my AGV crumple zone full face might do a slighty different job than the german helmet I just bought

I know... it was the only flat black one in a major Melbourne store.

Suits the gay rice burner it was paired with anyway.

Have a range of open face and full face helmets. Found myself riding with the Full face lately simply for comfort and safety.
Not into the "it looks cool" after I was called to a bike accident. The ride had an open face on and lost most of his nose and chin; thought, fuck that happening to me

To each his own but as I love listening to music as I ride the full face does its job for me, plus the Shoei is quite and comfortable

    Cheers

Just bought a Shoei full face, very comfortable and quiet. Will use it for longer runs and gonna check out the NEX 3/4 for shorter trips.
As for "Not me Bucket. I intend to live forever. So far so good... " I saw a TShirt the other day that said, " I am invencible... so far! "

Just bought an X Rated 'Peanut' helmet. Hopefully won't be too loud with the short shots. Haven't tested it yet.
