Kim W.  of Honolulu, Hawaii, USA here.  I may run into some mates from a couple of Brit bike sites I used to frequent,  Still have a bunch of old Brit Iron, a newer Thruxton, a couple of Ducati projects, a Moto Guzzi which I bought to harvest forks and wheels for a Norton Commando, and now I seem to be accumulating Davidsons.  The first brand new bike I ever bought I bought for my 58th birthday in May of 2009, an 09 XR1200.  I also have an 85 FXRC (mostly stock), a 96 XLH project hot rod, an 04 FXD, an 07 FXDL crash total parts bike which I could rebuild, an 07 FXDL (killed the L with 13.5" Progressives) which I keep up in Napa, CA, another 07 FXDL mostly stock with a tennis ball sized dent in the tank which I keep that on the Big Island of Hawaii for rides there (much more open road than Oahu).  I keep a pretty nice 03 XLH 883 on Maui.   I have an 09 Ultra Classic in the east coast of the US (Georgia), an 03 Heritage in Tucson, AZ (bought from my girlfriend...born a Kiwi!).  My regular ride here is an 07 FXD with 13.5" Ohlins and some good tires.  My friend is a fan of old HDs and is rebuilding a very stock 1951 Pan for me.   Whew.  Yeah, I got that Davidson thing BAD.

Years ago I owned some older XLs, including an XR1000.

My girlfriend and I did a ride this summer on her old bike (03 Heritage) which we took from San Diego up the US West coast to Napa.  Visited my Dyna up there and rode with my friend up the coast a ways.  Back through Yosimite to Las Vegas, then up to the Grand Canyon.  Back down through Flagstaff, Sedona, Prescott, Wickenburg, to Tuscon where we left it tended with friends and got back here.  2700 miles and eighteen days.  We didn't push very hard and had several "lay days" where we didn't ride.  I tried to cut it up into 200-250 mile chunks.

Earlier in the summer, I got the Napa bike over to LA and rode it to Tucson, then back to the coast and up to Napa.  That was about 2000 miles in less than a week.  But that was solo, so it was easier.

I guess this is enough for an "introduction",   I tend to be a bit chatty.  Oh, you noticed?

Should be next to the State Hospital. Or IN the State Hospital. But, during this recession, I decided to invest in "hard" assets as well as equities. So when an bargain comes along, I can justify it as an "investment". Sure. Haven't sold any yet.
I have another post up asking about the legalities involved in shipping one to Aus. and storing it there for some really interesting rides.

I figure that since the Harley family was last represented at HD by an elderly secretary from the Harley family line, that the company really is most appropriately represented by the Davidsons. Willy G....etc. So, I think of them, properly I'd say, as Davidsons.

Welcome Kim. I've spent a lot of time in Hawaii...many a Mai Tai under the banyan tree at the Moana (which makes me sound like a tourist...exactly!) . Plenty of people here will offer to baby sit your HD in Australia, including me if I can pick the model LOL.

Love the Moana. A friend and fellow old Triumph rider was the managing director for that hotel for years, including the period when it was rebuilt to it's original glory. I spent several weekends in their lovely suites as a comp from Fred O. when my late wife was ill with the Big C. Many a Mai Tai there and on the catamarans offshore. I worked on one as mechanic/crew/ticket sales/bartender for five years back in the eighties. No money, but all the girls you could carry home. I grew up in Waikiki.
Currently, the lovely Ms. Maureen and I enjoy the Halekulani for the evening dancing/music, and then to the Lewers Lounge for jazz. She was born in NZ and is a Harley rider herself. Our first real date was me on my Thruxton and she on her Heritage.
So, what do I have to buy to interest you? I'm partial to the late Dynas, it seems. Luv the XR, but it's worthless for long distance two up touring.

Yep, and Harley-Davidsons they are and will be. You say po-TAH-to, I say......spud. However, if we're talking about an appropriate nickname, they should be Davidsons, not Harleys. Seems to me. You even provided more reason for that to be so.
Plus, I tend toward the iconoclastic and non-standard. That's why my only transportation for over ten years was a not-quite-stock 1968 Tri. Bonneville. It also explains my Oil-In-Frame Norton Commando with Moto Guzzi forks and Duc. 916 brakes, my (long gone) Maico 500 cafe racer, 74 Triumph Trident with BMW K75 fuel injection (never worked quite right), or the half-built Mercury outboard V-6 drag bike. I was about to embark on fitting a hot-rod 1996 XLH engine into a spare Commando frame, also with the backbone converted to the oil tank and custom isolastic rubber mounts. But the Dyna was a much simpler project. I bought a thoroughly squashed 07 and am beginning a ground up on that one. Trying to get A and A racing frame folks interested in building a flat-track style Chrome-Moly frame, nickel plated, of course. Probably fit Ohlins forks (Howard, you listening?) and shocks, and a 107 inch engine with belt drive primary, chain final, Morris magneto and a brace of Dellorto pumper 38s. No electronics and minimal electrics.
So, a rose by any other name............
