Stupid question (maybe) - but reckon you could fit the XR1200 shocks on a dyna?

I have an XR and a Dyna. The XR shocks are over 14" long. They will fit, but the leverage that the swingarm imparts on the XR is less than the Dyna, so the springrates and damping will be underrated for your Dyna. I tossed the stock HD Dyna pogo sticks and installed specially set up 13.5" Ohlins and I thought the roads had been repaved overnight. Amazing. The second huge improvement was dumping the Dunlops in favor of the Metzler 880s. I plan to do some work on the forks, progressive springs and oil fiddling. I have a good bud who makes telescope parts (tool and die maker and CAD machinist) who will make some air caps for the forks, just for fun. Might make tuning the forks a little easier.
The Ohlins are spendy, but I lucked out on the purchase of the Dyna, so I'm less hesitant to invest in good stuff. And those Ohlins are GOOD. And rebuildable. I figure if they keep me from flopping on my ear just once, they've paid for themselves.

The XR1200 stock shocks are longer and made for a lighter bike.  The XR1200 guys 1st order of business is to throw them away and buy real shocks.  THe upgraded shocks are than purchased and than the new owner tries to sell them because they are also provide less than stellar performance.  You can purchase them from people who bought the "performance Big Piston kit shocks and fork kit" cheaper, the longer they have them for sale.   It is of my oppinion if you paid for postage only to get these shocks, you would have spent too much.  They look good in the picture but once you get them on, another story. I build suspension for the XR1200 and I feel that I am giving you qualified advice.  Look elseware for your suspension needs.

    Cheers guys.

The Ohlins definitely seem the goods.

    Probably!
In the long run - some better shocks probably would have saved the primary cover.

I suscribe to a XR1200 forum and if you wish to read the comments on the shocks that are on the new upgrade system, I can give you a link than read. I do not think this is proper to add links on another forum but drop me an e-Mail.  On that forum you can ask to buy those almost brand new Showa shock s from many forum members there.  It costs around $95 for shipping.  You may e-Mail me for the link if you wish.  I do not sell them nor do I know or ask to know anyone who is selling them.
