     Hey Lads,

I just got my bike its first service (I am not allowed to tell you where because I reckon they charged me too much for what they did)

Anyways - can I ask what others have been charged on average service??

I got hit just short of $400 to change the oils.   They did nothing else.

    Cheers
    Mongrel

DAMN!! They have also recommended dropping the service schedules to 4000kms and not the 8000kms as HD recommend. They told me that 8000ks between service is far too long for these bikes. Are the feeding me a line??

Thanks man. I will do about 8000 to 10000 a year I suppose - which would see me servicing it twice a year at that rate. EEK!!!

I think the simple answer here is to get a service manual, and and learn how to change the fluids yourself.
If you need to, get the dealer to do the 8k services, and do the in between 4k service yourself.
They should be doing a lot more than just oils when they perform a service.

I've been quoted $260 for first service by a mob here in Adelaide, including any tuning because of the SE tuner and V&H pipes I have.

    Sounds cheap now !

    Thanks Robo.

I have dropped a canned map in for now, and will do some Vtunes very shortly.

Thanks for the info mate. Once the 2 years is up on the warranty - All bets are off mate. :)

    Thanks Bucket,

I know one thing - I will calling them on monday to have a whinge. I decided to have a look over the bike to make sure all was good and found a few drips of oil on my garage floor. Upon inspection there was crap load of oil all around the regulator. So obviously when the pulled the oil filter the spilt the oil over the regulator area - thats fine - but they didn't frigging clean it. GRRR!!!

Plugs, oil filter and oil at around $65 I service my bike every 3 to 4K  The KN airlter is a simple clean and refit

Air cooled engines need a regular oil change

Paid $275 for my first service and he even washed my bike (reckons it was making his tools dirty).

My Sporty is due its first (8k) service and been quoted $380 and $340 by different dealers so sounds about right. Also, just bought some Ikon shocks and dont have the tools to fit so decided to ask for a price for the work to be done. $180 at one dealer, $85 at the second, so just goes to show its worth shopping around. It would cost me more than that for a jack to do the work myself!

By the way, the dealers approached were ones who have had a good rap on here so thanks for the feedback all.

Hmm Speaking of shocks. When I bought the bike I asked for the lowering bolts to be put in. $300!! Yep - They saw me coming.

Well that depends on whether you were happy with their service or not!

Took my bike back to the stealer for what was supposed to be a good check over and change all the oils check primary chain etc.....they give me a ring...mate someone has sprayed this air filter with oil and it is a paper airfilter...do you want us to replace it with a K&N for you...yes ok...thats $400.00......look at the bill..all they had done was change engine oil new oil filter new air filter and tightened up back shocks.....bought a service manual and will service every 5,000 k's...the manual is payed for in the first service I do myself....

It's all too common, i think because a lot of Harley riders have a bit of money (not me) the stealers take advantage of it knowing that most of them ride them rarely and won't bother checking anything when they get home anyway. I have been charged for work that was never done eg: told engine oil & filter was changed only to find the mark i put on the oil filter was still there, told that everything had been lubed as per the service sheet only to find nothing had been touched etc etc. Funny thing is, i never had these issues with all the jap bikes i owned. As fusion said, buy a manual.

    Peter,

I am thinking the same thing here. I had a look at my oil filter and it appears to be the same one. I think this way because it was fairly dirty - not what a fresh clean new filter would be.

So here I am feeling very jipped, and now thanks to admin, I can't even tell you who did it. What a joke.

what if a non harley dealer did the service and found a warranty clam on a broken part , can they do it or do they just bill u for it?

I think you would have to take it back to HD for warranty. Same thing happens on my Truck. Local mechanic services it, but if he finds something wrong, I take it to the dealer for warranty.
