Anyone heard of or know about throttle bosses????

Am looking into new grips and have come across specs for some which have a "throttle boss" but not really sure what they do

Hoping someone can enlighten me

But for me, a windscreen is a must 'cause our speed limits up here in the Territory is 130km/h. Fugged if I'm gunna hang on for hours on end when I can just sit there and be comfortable. The beauty of detachables. Can't beat em
