You need the alignment tool. Using 2 is the better idea. They do not make those things for laughs.

    Parallel lifters live long.

Point 1. There is no maybe about it.
Point 2. The tool is a machined taper ,that centres the block, to ensure that the lifter wheel is parallel to the cam lobe. It is definitely more than the thread with a square top.
Point 3. Lifter wheel fails due to poor assembly. But that is not what is diagnosed, it never is. Let's all blame HD.
Point 4. Just put 2 bolts in, that would be even quicker.
Point 5. Buy the tool here then. Pay 3 dollars.

    Try adopting the following....

No job is so urgent, that it cannot be performed safely and correctly.

If you want to ignore good practice, I acknowledge your choice.
It might be better if you did not encourage others to do the same, however.

i,lll get the alignment tool and do it properly, thanks you blokes,

Burto i,m putting new lifters in, do you know what purpose the hole in the lifter ? does it lubricate the lifter block , or allow the lifter to leak down ,as far as i know they fill up thru the top of the lifter, or is it like a bleeder ?

The hole in the side is the inlet. The hole in the top is the outlet(up through the pushrod, and into the rocker arm).
I still face the holes together upon assembly, but it really does not matter with that type.
As pointed out, the relief for the hole goes all the way around the lifter, so the oil has access irrespective.

I am not going to start a fight.

I realise that would be silly.

There is no reality in what you are saying.

    None at all.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO READJUST(correctly set) EVO LIFTERS.

If you ever put an evo engine together, with HD hydraulic lifters, and you needed to readjust the pushrods after a few miles, it is because you did it WRONG.

DynaRider, I wouldn't have described you as arrogant, tactless is more appropriate. That said I have never had a problem with tactless people as all that "softening the blow" bullshit is avoided.
Bangkok Bob, I am thinkin that "pointless ramblings" would best describe you.
houli, I dunno mate have you been takin hormone pills or sumthin.

This thread is best described as gay... it started off alright, but then.....

And people usually just call me a prick.

Well gentlemen now that we have all that sorted out, can we go back to talkin about bikes. FFS.

I have read this thread and watched it develop into a bit of a shitfight.
The main contentious point, is simply that one of the participants has
a way of imparting his knowledge in a factual way that has been misconstrued
as either demeaning or arrogant. Other members have been offended by this,
not realising that it is a reply stating facts, with no emotional element included.
I am guilty of falling into the same trap in a previous thread. What is worse,
I should have known better, being the father of a 15 year old who interacts in the same way.
I am sure the whole purpose of this Forum is to interact with other like minded individuals,
    and as individuals recognise diversity.
