    Hi Everybody

Just a quick question, I have read on the forum that when purchasing parts from overseas you need to keep the cost under $1,000 to aviod paying duties, GST etc.

Does the $1,000 limit include or exclude shipping?

    Cheers

FYI from ATO web site GST is calculated by

The value of the product is the sum of:

    • the customs value of the goods

    • any customs duty payable

    • the amount paid or payable to transport the goods to the port or airport of final destination in Australia (or the place in Australia to which goods are posted)

    • the insurance cost for that transport, and

No Guys... The shipping is NOT included in the customs value.

It is the GOODS ONLY. I have been importing goods for years. There are a couple of things you need to be aware of.

The $1000 is AU dollars. So if you order $1000 of USD, you will get hit with duty.
Be careful... if you order 2 or 3 orders from one company and they all arrive around the same time, customs may combine them.

This page is worth the read...

EDIT - I should add...  if your goods are more than 1000 bucks, then you WILL have to calculate the shipping costs into the equation.
