New speedo in the 2011 Catalogue - Item 74777-11

Item specifically states 2011 Softail. Mentions Km reading updated at plugin from the ECM in the text as below.

Is there some change in the bikes software which would not allow mods for such a speedo to fit to a 2010 model.

I particularly like the idea of speedo/tacho combination, both with arms upright and moving to the right.

Anyone has some insight into this change that makes this particular speedo not suitable for 2010 model? (Other than it states 2011 models)

    COMBINATION ANALOG SPEEDOMETER/

    TACHOMETER – ’11 SOFTAIL

    ® MODELS*

These gauges feature speedometer and tachometer pointers that sweep clockwise to provide a “gauge within a gauge” look.

Available in your choice of a two-tone spun aluminum or black dial face, these color-backlit gauges include a large LCD information

screen that displays traditional odometer/tripmeter data, miles to empty readings, an easy-to-read segmented fuel

display, and a gear position indicator generated from engine RPM and vehicle speed. This valuable information is available

to the rider at a glance. Mileage reinstatement resides in the vehicles ECM so initial mileage will be uploaded at the time of

    gauge installation.

    (Available September 2010.)  Fits ’11 Softail® models with a 5" Speedometer (except FLSTSE2).

74775-11 Spun Aluminum Dial, KPH. $259.95

    74777-11 Black Dial, KPH. $259.95

    I am with you mate!

I wanted a speedo that had a tacho that would go in a clockwise direction and not make the speed needle that small that it was hard to tell what speed you were doing. The only choice I had for my 2010 Fatty was the Digital/Analogue combo. At first I thought I might not like it, but after putting 300ks on it I now find it fantastic to glance down and see you that I am doing 115 or 120!! The tacho is tops too.

My problem - it condenses up so bad that the water starts running down the glass leaving a nasty stain. It is going back. <img src=" border="0" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif" />

If these can fit... I might consider one of these instead - although the price on the digi one is very attractive!!

EDIT - Just saw the price on the one you posted - WOW!!  I am keen to know if they fit too.

I believe the new speedo/tacho only suits the new 2011 models because they have a new data system so older bikes are not suitable ...

That's a bit of a let down by HD, have a good look'n speedo and not being compatable with pre 2011 models.
I have the brushed finish speedo tacho and its one of the best additions I have done to my scoot.
Looks great and good to know what rpm your sitting on.

Just found out lads that these speedos are now compatible with 2010 models and they even supply a cable to suck your Kms into the new speedo!!

Trouble is - I can get it delivered here for about $300. Local dealer wants $460. And they wonder why we go OS. <img src=" border="0" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/sad.gif" />

I purchased a p/n 70900071 for my 2010 Softail the colour is different though. As Waz said a few of us have got them fitted, the km's come over really easy via the cable.

Have you asked Luke from Harley Heaven for a price? He gave me a good price on one after I'd already purchased from M&M, the original quote I got from HH wasn't from Luke and was a lot dearer. I'd have got mine from Luke if I was still looking for one.

Got mine in yesterday and it looks the goods!! :)

Can someone tell me if the gears will work once I start moving?

I ask because the weather has been shit so I can't ride it to test, but when I set it to have the gears show, they are blank. Dropping it into first does not show anything. I take it I need to ride it?

The gear indicator works only when you are moving with the clutch out.
so if you are rolling along in gear and pull the clutch in the gear indicator go'es out,
