Ok so I was guilty, but...
In the past I used to mock people who said speed cameras were only for revenue raising saying "It's a voluntary contribution scheme. If you don't want to contribute, don't speed." No one can say that now with camera's around every corner and in traps like downhill stretches.
The Sharks Teeth being added to school zones now are brilliant and must be helping people note the zone a lot better, but they haven't been added to the school zone in Harbord Road yet, so $271 and 4 points. Shit.
You cannot appeal school zone infringements but what are the chances I could appeal on the grounds that the bike is so noisy there in no chance any person would venture onto the road when it's coming? But Your Honour...just listen to this! (What ...noise infringement as well?!)
if they were fair dinkum about slowing people down in school zones then they would put up flashing lights to alert drivers that it is a
school zone , ive been guilty of day dreaming a bit when driving through a school zone and it hasnt clicked to me that its after 2.30
and i should be doing 40kph on a stretch of road im used to doing 60kph on................
but then again theres no money in me slowing down is there ?
I was cruising past a big school here in Alb at the right speed & I noticed a woman & a kid in either hand towing them out to the road I was travelling along (3 years ago it was the Hume Highway). My bike makes a bit of noise just the way I like it, I started slowing down, I think maybe even with a throttle blips going down a gear but she kept on coming, well when she got past the outside the line of parked cars still just about running I was just about on her but at about 10kms or less by then, she looked up from gabbering to the two brats & just about crapped herself. Those schools are dangerous places.
Any one been to the old dart or comes from there may remember Zebra crossings, black & white stripes across the road & a big slowly flashing orange globe on top of a pole.
Now it may be a bit hard to expect our modern day mums, dads & kids to file across the road in one particular designated place that was safe for them but a big slowly flashing orange globe at either end of the school zone would be very effective. I am no fan of the old dart in any shape or form but from what I remember it worked well.
Then again our road engineers probably figure it will be a waste of time to offer our little hooligans another target to smash the big orange globes in their random acts of vandalism seen in our urban environment.
And of course Zebra crossings are not needed here cos the motor car rules & dedicated places for foot traffic would slow the nice traffic down, can't have that, even in busy shopping streets,
