Just wondering, from the guys that have changed to a fullface helmet after using an open face helmet whether you have notice a difference in the buffeting from the wind...Even with my screen on my neck and shoulders cramp up and then are sore for days afterwards especially after doing any distance over 100k's...

    Cheers...Sparra

ONLY 100k's ! if you are getting that much pain for such little k's i would be thinking there must be other reasons - not just buffeting.

I reckon the creen could be creating turbulance between it and you...reult, increased buffeting.

Up until yesterday, i wore a full face that the chin piece goes up to turn into a half face, i usually wear it when on my trail bike, or in the rain....yesterdays storms, blew the visor clean off....if it hit you because you were following, my apoligies.......i liked this helmet because 1. i bought it for $10 at the markets (saw same helmet although new in MCAS on weekend for $800) 2. because i dont like being stuck behind the visor and find it difficult to breath in a fullface, so being able to convert to half was great, when rain stops.
down side is ive now got neck muscles like a chinese swimmers thighs, as the extra hieght of the chin guard above the helmet was cause for great buffetting at speed.
From now on its a open face and a rag folded cowboy style when it rains.....just like the old days......or another $10 helmet for my $10 head....

I bought a helmet called a shark, it's classed as a open face but has a chin piece like a full face, you can lock in place like a full face or behind your head as a open face. Not a really good looking helmet but riding to work each day during winter is much more comfortable, and if the sun is out riding home we have a open face.

From past experience riding with a screen.... You will find the wind is actually coming up from down near your knees, causing the buffeting. That is why a lot of bikes with screens also fit lowers to deflect the lower wind.

That said... There is no way I will ride with an open face helmet. If I come of, even at low speed, I want to keep my face.

I had friend who recently came off and it was not until she got home that she realised that the visor on her full faces helmet was scraped to the point where she could not see out of it. If she was wearing an open face helmet, she would have ground her nose to the bone!!

With a screen the wind actually slaps you in the back of the head. I use both open and full face and find they both have their plusses and minuses. I also remember seeing a study that proved that neither was safer than the other, you may damage your chin in an off with your open face but your full face can screw you up somehow by crushing a part of your head....

If you are ugly don't worry about a full face cos you will be only uglier if you slide down the road on your face at any speed, let alone 100k's & at that speed you will even be too ugly for pearly gates entry qualification.

I got a Vemar flip front as one of the little "goodies" when I got my bike last year. Only worn it 2 or 3 times, but actually wore it on last weekend on a quick zip up the expressway. Was annoying as it was buffeting me around, rattling, and had to physically move my head to see the speedo, couldnt just glance down. On the way back decided to head right and cruised back through Wisemans Ferry with the front up. Much better I thought. If I get another "full face" it would definitely be a flip front helmet. Though, I think I want to try a few on road, as the noise is incredible with the shaking and rattling in the one I have.

I followed steamers lead an got a Shoei XR1100 full face. Can't believe how good it is. Quieter, no turbulance, fantastic sealing visor, better visibility than my Nolan full face and more comfortable. Makes for a much more enoyable ride.

V2EVO the shark helmet has removable liner,I'm very happy with quality, fit is quite firm but it will loosen up as get more use,my only complaint is the chin strap could be a bit longer to make it easier to do up & undo,& vision is more restricted than with open face but is still ok.Is much quieter than any other helmet I have used,I've only used open face before.Ive only used this helmet on buell head down arse up but don't think I will have any problem on a harley

Can't believe the number of HD riders in full-faces these days. It's become a disease. What's the world coming to? SMART is what it's coming to!

    Gday all,

I have just bought a M2R Premium open face helmet it has a visor that tilts up or can be removed.

I wore it for the first time today and am very happy with it. I have always worn cheap open face helmets and found them ok but this is much more comfortable and when you close the visor it offers the same amount of vison as a open face helmet with the added protection of a visor. Another plus it at speed (not as fast as the speed demons, im not that fast) with the visor down the air does not get under the helmet and try to pull it off my head. I had this trouble with my old open face.

I am calling it the Claytons open face helmet.

    Charlie,

Yes - and I am going to pick one up shortly. Not because you can ride open face, but because I like the flips ups when you stop etc. That said, from what I have read it is the only helmet that you can ride as an open faced helmet legally.

Helmet laws suck, electric starts suck, fuel gauges suck and gun laws especially suck

I will get one on my next trip to Sydney. Reason being... I went into Canberra's largest motorcycle shop (you work it out) and when I wanted one, they told me I would have to pay extra freight because the didn't have a small in stock and would have to order it. I told them to jam it up the arse, and now I will spend my money elsewhere. I have a helmet - so I can wait!! Wankers. They had mediums and Large and XL etc, but no smalls - and that's my fault how??

I own my own business and if I treated my customers like that I would go broke.
