I had a go at doing a v-tune run today.I loaded up the tuning map, opened datamaster and set it up to record and off I went.Well I did'nt even make the driveway.ALDL error,no prob's I think to myself just a loose plug.So I tried the rubber band trick, nope that didn't work so I tried jaming a piece of card in the USB slot...nope still the ALDL error.I tried the other two USB port's on the computer but still the same problem. Now i'm thinking this is lovely I've got the tuning map loaded on the bike and no coms to put the original map back so I can at least ride the thing.OK so I closed datamaster and loaded mastertune, click get ecm info and bang connected.Without touching anything I reloaded datamaster and tried again same thing ALDL error, buggered if I know.So i'm getting a connection through mastertune but nothing with datamaster, well at least I was able to reload the original map and ride the thing but I'm fugged if I know.Anyone got any clues,I'm going to try reinstalling datamaster when I get time and see if that work's.Cheer's anyway Waz!
ALDL stands for “Assembly Line Diagnostic Link” . This is what come out of the ECU diagnostic port. The VCI box adapts this signal to serial which your USB adapter takes into your laptop. I've read on the GM forums (similar delco ECUs) that anything from a bad diagnostic cable to VCI connection, bad cable and along the line to your laptop could be the problem.
Before you go on the ride, start data master and wiggle/shake all the cables, you may find a poor connection that only causes problems when stressed.
On the other end, perhaps you have a defect on the motherboard that only shows itself with vibration. If you shake the laptop in the driveway before riding, and you get that error. Do you have the laptop padded well enough?
The bottom line here, the ALDL error is not necessary caused by a problem with the laptop.
The current TTS works just fine with Windoze 7, been using it for a few months without issue, better than XP.
