A BIT MORE!! Are you kidding!! When my HD dealer wants over DOUBLE - That is where I draw the line. I would not mind paying a bit more, but what I got quoted $1650 for here, I landed for less than $800. You mean to tell me you would pay that???

Local Traders you gotta support the good ones(not the HD dealers), try sending stuff back to the US if you have a problem.

Private purchases get in less GST in most cases, local trader has to add GST and pays same amount for Air freight,, so the little discount a Trader gets off RRP is quickly eaten away in costs.

It's a tough business selling O/S sourced parts.

I'm with u Mongrel...   Purchased 2 stainless steel brake disc from the U.S. 10PM on a Tuesday night...

they were delivered to my door 9AM FRIDAY morning ...   CHEAPER than I could purchase ONE disc here...

My gear drive cams were over $900.00 cheaper importing them from M&M's...

It's good to support local ...   but BE FUGGED if I'll be RIPPED OFF by them...

I'd love to support local but not at over doulble the price and really the local stealers are just buying it wholesale from the US anyway. I buy direct from the US and my purchase supports AUstralian customs jobs and jobs at Aus post. It also allows me to keep more money in my pocket whcih ultimately gets spent on local goods anyway.

I buy everything I can locally - even Aus branded if I can get it - but over half of my bike related purchases come from OS.

I think most people are the same, you probably can over look 20-30% difference between here and OS. If they have it in stock, and are helpful perhaps upto 40-50%. But i cannot justify 100%+ price difference, and more so on big ticket items.

Are you supporting a local worker or simply HD Australia (or similar) as a middle man?

    cheers

    Here is a classic example...

I recently put the 4 inch risers on. When I bought this latest box of goodies I wanted the risers but HD in the US didn't have any in stock and were on backorder, so I asked the local dealer and they found me a set locally.

HD in the USA have an RRP price of $140US. I was quoted $120US or $130AUD. I ended up buying them from my local dealer for $270AU because I really needed them. THAT IS OVER DOUBLE!!!

If I could have grabbed them with my last order from OS I would have, but as no stock - I had to pay double. So this time at least... the Dealer got my cash.

Has anyone checked out the harkley reward Card?

Yep. For every $1000 you spend with them, they give you $50 credit.

EDIT - You should be able to negotiate that sort of a discount on an item worth $1000 anyway - so sort of defeats the purpose really!
