Went over the Helmet Warehouse and following Steamer's lead got an XR1100 in silver for $700. Can't believe how good it is: low wind resistance (so a lot quieter, which is what I was after), wide field of view and good ventilation, all things that don't matter with safety rating but in practice make for a less stressed ride, which in turn is safer.
While I was there I chatted with a MEGA attractive young girl (about 20) buying a pink Shoei, which would have looked great on Steamer on the Canberra Floriade ride if anyone would take a look at the thread but you are all too tough to check it out . Anyway, she jammed the lid on and jumped on the back of a serious jappa behind a young bloke dressed like her in T shirt and sneakers and casual pants who took of like Valentino Rossi. A very cool look but I still have my fingers crossed for her - she won't look quite as cute once she stops sliding.
I actually don't mind the bloke dressing like that if he wants to - free choice for both of them I guess - but a lot of responsibility to be riding hard with a lightly dressed pillion on board. And anyway he wasn't as cute as her so less to lose.
I see it in the city all the time among the scooter brigade. $700 helmets and in the summer the girls wear skirts and sandles. The men (if you can call them that) in their suits and slip on loafers.
I would rather have a $100 helmet, $300 jacket, $200 boots and $75 gloves. Any extra purchases would be for pants. $700 for a helmet because there's no wind noise Sheeesh. I wish we could still ride with the wind in our hair.
Eventually these knobs (once called thong nongs) will have governments introduced manditory standardised motorcycle clothing. This will boost the price of what we buy now, through the roof.
My bike my rules , ya don't get on the back unless your geared up
