Posted some progress with my project about fitting 03 Dyna twincam and trans into a 70 shovel frame about a year ago, well just gota paint the tank and it's finished. Gona call it the MONGREL, cause it all made of the following bits: Frame 1970 FLH Shovel, Modified, 2003 Dyna motor trans, and electrical, 2008 Wideglide front end with 2010 fatbob sliders and front fender, VRod rear shocks, 2008 FLH chrome smoothie wheels and tyres, 2005 fatboy forward floorboards and foot controls, 2009 FXDB handlebars and hand controls (used 11/16 front master for dual front disc), 2005 dyna rear brake, with 2005 FLH front brakes, early sporty tank, a combinatination of softail and dyna exhaust, and lots of custom made stuff! its nearly all genuine new and used Harley apart from the aftermarket early FLH rear fender and Lepera seat. Just a word of advice, some genuine HD parts are cheap, for example, 2003 dyna fueltap assy complete was only about AU$35. so if you are building a custom it dosn't hurt to check genuine HD prices first! Have posted some pics.

Had to make a larger diameter lower bearing shell carrier with stop, apart from that all fitted OK.

Also, the engine and trans is all rubber mounted as per 2003 Dyna, runs real smooth! rode it for the first time today.

Ive got a early evo motor in a 70s flh frame and I was thinking of trying out a sportster tank on my bike. How many ks do you think it would do on a full tank?

Swingarm is a highly modified 2003 Dyna unit, used the rear rail sections that had the caliper, axle, and shock mounts etc,
and rebuilt the whole forward section so it would still mount to the rear of the Dyna tranny, but fit between the original 70 FLH rear frame rails.

probably would not get the full tank as its tilted back & fuel tap is in center, but looks good my guess would be a 580 pound bike so might get even better economy than a normal dyna
