When I bought my softy about 15mths ago I hadn't been riding for a lot of years and my thinking was that I would get an older, cheaper bike to make sure I still enjoyed it and then maybe upgrade to a newby...Well after 15 months and another coupla g's I have had the go ahead to upgrade...My bike only has 7500k's on it and I could do a big wheel kit and the motor to make it go a little harder or put it back to original and sell it and the extra's and then only have to put in a few g's for a new one(or late model second hand one)...my question is...Even with a new one, does the spending ever stop and is anyone in here ever happy with there bike/setup or does the spending just keep going on...Also how do you price you bike for sale...Red book seems way too low,Ebay and bike point seem over the top...Maybe just put it up at what I think and the market will soon let me know...

    Cheers...Sparra

As I was told some years back when asking about my first Harley . You have to find a model that has the MOST of features or style that YOU want or like . BUY it then start modifying it and then you really do appreciate and love YOUR Harley , because its YOURS .

The easy part is buying the bike .

                                                                                              SUCH IS LIFE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont want it to end, we live in the best time, there is more customising options now than there has ever been, wether it be off the shelf bolt on or something you or your mate has helped u knock up. People are comin up with ideas now more than ever, some cool some crap, but then my idea of cool will be someone elses idea of crap. The different styles of bikes, old school, bobber, hot rod, its just all too good. You gotta admit that some of us "brain dead bikie thugs" really are artists of the finest degree we just use a different medium to the mainstream.

    Happy days

I always knew when i finally bought a Harley it would be a softail standard, so then it was just a case of putting a few bits on it like ECM, seat, sissy bar, pegs etc. As far as working the motor is concerned i think that if you buy a Harley and then try to go fast on one then you shouldn't buy a cruiser because thats all a Harley will ever be. Why make a bike go fast that will never handle anyway ?? Get a sports bike. As far as spending money on wheels and money sucking stuff is concerned well, you want to make sure you have the right bike before you start pouring money into it otherwise you will regret it because it's not the bike you really want anyway. You mentioned buying a new one, why ?? Do all the research, figure out exactly what you want on the bike then find a "nearly new" with all the gear set up the way you want it and have it cost you a shitload less money.

Sorry that i dont have the priviliage to actually relate to it a bike right atm!..but my personal pride and joy was that i owned up until recently one of my fathers boats!...insane pirate, boat builder/racer... my ultimate legacy..but sadly was not in a position to restore or rebuild so actually sold it to a man that i used to take out fishing in it...possibly even loves it more than me!..when is money ever enough?...sold my soul for half of what it was worth just because i had too..whatever it is...fark letting go is hard to do yeah!..just hopin that it was the right thing for you my friend!

Where did i say i putt around ?? What i mean is that you can only lean a Harley until your primary cover or pipes scrape on the ground (which is pretty easy to do) then you run out of clearance. So, whats the point of going really fast in a straight line when you have to slow down at every corner just to get around it ?? To my mind a bike is meant to be ridden for what it is and a Harley was built to be a cruiser, that's why i have two bikes. If you want to go fast then get something that actually is fast. Oh yeah, i don't wear a bandana either and, this is only my opinion so feel free to ignore it.

I'm lucky i loved the look of the Fatbob the first time i saw one so i haven't wanted to bling him up, just the air filter, computer & pipes.

Yep, could have bought anything other than a Harley when I settled on me Softy, but the challenge to make it go better, handle better and look better is what did it for me...

Theres nothing like (for me anyways) pushing it through the twisties when the thing is just under control....Then spend some more to get it to go a bit better...

Theres no challenge to doing 300+ kph on a bike of the showroom floor....Maybe kill yaself a bit quicker....

As for cruising, theres shit loads of Harley's over 5 yo that have less then 5000ks on them...

I bought an old Shovel, Piled a bit of money into the motor, put some colour on the tins and am slowly starting to collect some bling for it. I am out to 107ci, I constantly scrape my pipes, I get it off the clock on long straights, I love the shit outta my bike and it still owes me less than 15k. Everyone has their own idea of what is right for them so unfortunately nobody here can tell you exactly what is right for you. Look around and spend a lot of time before you spend any money, One day you will see something that you just have to have no matter what whether it be new or old and that will be your answer. That's enough of a rant for me

I beleive the day you stop spending money on your bike is the day to sell it.
