When it comes to open face helmets, I recon some make you look a bit rediculous. Like a bloody martian. On the other hand, recon I have seen some riders buy extra small helmets and remove the liner from the shell all together. Not for me... I want to look good (well, as good as this ugly head can), but still protect my nogn.
Anyone care to share their experiences with decent open faced helmets/brands?
Mungrel.
I have had similar experiences, got choked once on my own helmet strap... it felt like a parachute tied to my neck! Got rid of that one. I have yet to find a D.O.T open face that works for me.
I have a full faced matt black Shoei TZ-R that I wear if the weather is crappy. I thoughoughly recommend them. Great helmets.... but I don't wear full face all the time.
Cheers
Go a few open face lids.... don't like the RXT as it's too round inside and does not site right. The best i have is the RJay's, fits well. Was in Frasers yesterday and they have new Nolans and they are a nice fit, but don't like the feeing around the ears. They have been developed for the Nolan audio system....
The only time a full face ever comes into my mind is when the rain starts coming down. Took my daughter for a ride and she would not get on the bike until I bought another open face helmet, I asked her the problem and she said "come on Dad, no one will see me in a full face",
I use a bushranger novelty helmet if I am out on a ride outa the city on the weekend, because as people have noted,it doesn't feel like a wind sail and try and pull your head off.If I am riding around town or during the week,I wear an Rjays Sturgis, which despite all the advertising about it being lightweight and lowfitting, still is a balloon head and makes my neck ache if I ride for any distance with it on.I am thinking of trying a Nolan Retro N30 with the visor,to keep out the plague of Bogong moths we have here and the enormous amounts of bugs this year.

Ohhh yeah, and the constabulary around here are pulling guys over if they see a helmet that looks as though it could be illegal and not only looking at the sticker on the outside, but also looking inside the helmet to see if it has the Australian standard tag sewn into the shell liner,AND if the helmet has had the foam removed and liner stuck back in,they are booking people for a non compliant helmet, because as soon as you modify it,it no longer complies with the standard.
I did a search and found this thread. I noticed that all of you guys have helmets that cover your ears. This is what I have, is it legal?
OSP
I've just purchsed the same helmet as you've got (105th Anniversary edition) from the US and no they are not legal in Australia (they are until you get caught)
It would be one of the most comfortable helmets I've ever owned!
Totally agree Mr Shadow
Mate of mine did the same thing and lost half a face wearing an open helmet, not to mention 2 broken legs, arms, ribs, pelvis, multiple internal injuries etc. But that usually happens when someone cracks a right hand turn in front of you and u enter through the left hand back window and exit through the right.
I think it comes down to the risk you want to take for the sake of preserving 'the 10 foot tall and bullet proof' look.
It astounds me that people actually remove helmet iternals to get 'the look' (?????)
If you don't want to look after yourself, take a step back and think of ur family and the impact it would have on them.
The only other advice I would give as a biker for 28 years is always, always watch what the other prick is doing. As you'd all know, they don't always see ya.
Stay safe
I've been using one of these for the last 2 years

The Arai is the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn.
I'm thinking about going back to a full face though cause I'm sick of the bugs & shit hitting me in the face.
