    Hey Guys and Gals,

My name is Brett and I'm an alcoholic.  Opps wrong forum… Only kidding but I do love a beer and bundy.

I’m in the process of buying my first Harley Davidson. I started looking in January but ended up buying a new Landcruiser V8 Ute and spend a fortune on it. But I still can’t get the idea of another bike out of my head. I have previously only had dirt bikes but always love the sound of a HD. Plus a few mates already have HD’s.

Back in January I narrowed it down to a Fat-Boy Lo or Fat-Bob. Either bike in black denim. After some research thanks to this forum I have decide on a 2011 Dyna Fat-Bob.

So last week I visited the guys at Mackay Motorcycles to start getting some prices. They happen to have an 2008 Dyna Fat-Bob with 40,000km on it amongst the used bikes. So in no time at all I was out for a test ride. An hour or so later I had to force myself to head back to the shop. I love the way this bike handles, it just need some pipes as the stock are too quiet. To bad it was the wrong colour or I would have saved some $$$ and brought it.

So I have taken a week just to make sure I’m going to be happy with the bike. So I have a few questions for you guys.

    • Black Denim – Being a matte finish is it easy to keep clean? As I have herd it marks easy compared to Vivid Black.
    • How kms per tank are people getting? As most of my riding will be around 450km to 550km each way.
    • I’m adding some V&H Big Shot Staggered pipes in Black. How does the black finish hold up?

Here is a pic of the 2008 Fat-Bob I got to test ride.

G'day mate ... welcome, cant help with the paint Q's but I got 310km's out of a tank the other day. I was considering a Fatty-Lo in denim, nice look.

    Goodluck with your Harley search.

    G'day Brett,

I got a FBL with Denim paint, a lot easier to clean than chrome, range about 300k's but can't help with the V & H. Take your time deciding then go for the Fat Boy Lo. If you're not sure wait a while then go the Lo!!

some have said the paint shows lots of oily or greasy marks...but maybe it's how ya look after em...the pipes will go well with it.... looking for a set myself....as for the colour...well it just a rattle can away from being matt black ...

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm off to Gladstone for the weekend. I will be dropping into Harbour City Motorcycles for a look around. I know Scott (Salesman) has been riding a Denim FatBob for the last 6 months so I will check out the paint. Also might stop in at Rocky on the way as well.

    Just an update.

Last weekend I went back to Gladstone to catch up with some friends (or get away while the ex moves her stuff out!). Seeing as I have been keen on a bike for some time now and after the ride in Mackay I decided to drop into Harbour City and see Scott who I have known for a long time. The only FXDF they had was Scott's personal bike (in Denim Black and only 10mths old). So he priced up a new 2011 model for me with some fruit. But if buying new I would prefer to buy local which is Mackay and I told him that. After some arm twisting I got him to give me a price for his bike. This took a lot of effort as he is not keen to sell it just yet. Anyway I took it for a ride... Well this thing is a weapon compared to the stocko I rode in Mackay. Holly FARK it is quick! Well quick for me anyway. So a verbal deal has been done. Just getting the deposit ready for him and finance is approved. So in 2 weeks or so when I can get back to Gladstone I will have my first Harley.
