Installed my vance & hines big shot staggered pipes today , this is the first time I have tried something like this ,I replaced oringinal baffles with Quite one which was recommend by forum . I was quite happy with myself to i started looking at pictures on the vance & hines web site  These baffles all had that white packing stuff around .them  I not having enough knowledge  and no instructions  Ripped it off and now in bin thinking it was packing material. What have I done have I stuffed up ? Do i need to order some of this Crapp

yeah you stuffed up, i replaced their packing with some tighter wound stuff as these "quiet baffles" don't really quiet them down much, maybe a little but mainly take some of the bark out, give em a slightly deeper note.

take em back out and wrap some more around. get some from a fireplace shop or the like

try a few birtbike shops...they tend to rebuild baffle's .... should be cheap enough as ya buy it in a sheet.....

Just curious - I've got Hooker trouble makers with standard baffles. Can i take the baffles out and wrap some packing round them and re fit em. Will this quiet them down a bit?

what i used was 2" wide woven fibreglass tape, wrapped it tightly overlapping itself and held it inplace with normal cello tape as beeza said that will burn off.

One thing I also did to make things easier in the future was to drill access holes in the heat sheilds so I can remove the baffle retaining bolts without having to remove the heatsheilds.

Also replaced the dome head retaining bolt with a cap head bolt. dome heads strip really easy, not the thread but the hole that the allen key fits into.

put plenty of anti seize on those bolts too....

Hey Daggs, how long does the f'glass tape hold out for. I've got the stainless mesh in at present and it takes the bark out of it but no deep note. I have a roll of 3mm glass tape for the very purpose but am too slack to put it in if I have to regularly replace it. Was using the stainless scourers for a while but they last about three months before they burn to nothing.... beagle

my quiet baffles have been in probably around a year and to me i think they still sound like they are doing their job but more than likely i'm getting used to it and the glass tape probably has deteriorated.

I should pull them out to check and replace the tape if needed.

not a cap head bolt but a dome head. And I should have said "rounded out" not stripped.

Dome heads always take one size down allen key to fit than that the equivilent thread size cap head would have.

Mine weren't "rounded out" but changed them anticipating trouble down the track. Cheers
