Hi there
My missus bought me a custom number plate for my birthday (VIC plate measures 184mmx95mm approx, black with silver font) so I proceeded to fit it to my bike today (03 Anniversary Fatboy with stock rear fender) and after undoing the 4 acorn bolts and removing the chrome cover off the std. VIC plate I discovered that the plate had been trimmed and extra holes drilled in the face of it to make it fit to the stock licence plate mount (least I think it's stock). Bit of a shitty job whoever did it. The other problem is the top chrome trim covers half of the bottom of the first letter and the last number, so it does not allow the full plate to be displayed.
Now, that's never been a problem till now but I'd rather not bastardise this plate to make it fit and would like to display it properly. The stock licence plate mount is bolted by 3? bolts through a triangular extention of the backing plate onto the fender with a a rubber damper between it and the fender and has a HD reflector at the bottom of it
Does anyone know of a quality chrome replacement that will let me display the new plate properly? I dont think the original mount is going to be usable beacuse of where the mounting bolts are positioned, but I guess they could be removed? They are on a square plate (not sure how they are attached though).
Cheers
Mate, the standard items like layback plate holders are made for yank plates. Ours are just slightly larger. No choice but to give it a little trim.
Doesnt matter mate, they still look good once you put a cover over the plate.
The west Aussie plates are alot bigger 250mm x 100mm, I just got a 2mm brass plate made from a workshop in Perth then got it chromed, I had to get the rubber base from a laydown plate so I could fit it and am happy with the result, can post some pics if you are interested
Here is the Layback chrome one I picked up from the dealer. It also has the chrome face on the front. I had to trim the plate, but looks fine, and you would never know.
This is a NSW customised plate. (5 letters)
