My mate had  starting problems with the subject bike . Upon pushing the button the starter was sluggish to respond and all data was wiped from the speedo and calibration had to be carried out. Running with headlight on was also a drain on the battery resulting in lost electronic data . The main problem is that the 14L size battery is not suitable for this bike and lacks capacity to enable this m/cycle to function correctly. Advice from harley boffins is that a larger capacity battery cannot be fitted due to frame restrictions. NOT TRUE ; remove the battery carrier slot a couple of holes make a small extension to secure the bracket ;modify the length of the battery strap and refit . Extend the battery cover locator and all is ready to receive the 20L battery, great starting ,no loss of data . I would also advise a headlight main beam isolating switch be fitted ;a great chrome flush mount can be obtained from Dick Smiths and one runs using the parking light. Any one requiering pictures and info on this subject can contact me here or on email mullettman@lizzy .com.au. Hope this helps . BLUEBELL.

So why isn't everyone else swapping their batteries if that's the case?

There's a top question; Who knows? Maybe others haven't exchanged their cable driven speedos for a didital model.
