i am ridin the 2011 softail convertible, $ 43,000 ride away..... a bargain considering 110 engine , inch thick paint and about 50- 60 extras
the Street Glide is my next bike...in a couple of years time, love the look, especially with the arse end lowered just a bit.
That CVO Street Glide was also my choice, same as GlenPick....
Hi Guys, Newbie here, Cowboy, Old School, my 7th Harley, 8th is on the way... Here is my 7th Mine was the second I know of in Australia, tail of last year, 2011 CVO and I loved the orange and black original Harley Colours of the Bar and Shield logo... Mine has Vance & Hines extractors, Super Trap mufflers with 0 discs so LOUD AND LOW, race tuner, LEDs on big windscreen light bar with indicator, LED indicators in chrome mirror covers, LED tail light, CVO Ultra Passing lights for the old school look..... Now broke in at going on 5000 kms since December and going like a FREIGHT TRAIN.... Decompression sounds like a truck Jake Brake, the 110 SE engine is GREAT once you get the big sucker air to it, and clean exhaust and tune it with a race tuner. It has about 20% more power now than stock and going great. I Love the engine!
Low profile tyres, hard suspension, skinny seat, big wheels with small rubber, makes this a GREAT CORNERING SCOOTER.... But for my old bones, anything past about a 2 hr radius and I have just Ordered the CVO Ultra Classis, new release on colour, with the same SE 110 Engine and I will tune it up the same way.. I will have a colorful garage... But like my fat tyre comfort for long hauls. This is first I know of coming to Australia in July:
Hi there
Thinking about a Street Glide: could anyone comment on how comfortable they are two up for intermediare distances (couple of hours)...
Looking at a 2009 model at the moment which has a removable sissy bar and rack..
Cheers
If you want to do two up touring you'll be looking for an ultra style seat and maybe longer shocks, if the roads are rough. I find the SG ok except on the roughest of roads, then I just have to slow down a lot, but 90% of my riding is solo. Two up on the highway is fine. Good luck with your choice...beagle
Have to agree about the seat, looks good but not an all day proposition. I have an 09 FLHX with 103cu installed prior to pick up and find they handle better than any other HD I've owned if ridden with in their limits .Have'nt owned an ultra but I figure with detachable top box you have all the practicality and the looks when not doing big miles.
Thanks for all the feedback folks.. Can anyone tell me if the 2009 SG comes standard with air shocks or is that an aftermarket fitting?
All out travelling will be on major/minor bitumen roads..
Hey mate, the 09 SG comes standard with air shocks, they are the lowered size... I think 12 inches, where as the standard Road Kings, Ultra etc have the 13 inch. Hope it helps, I have a 09 Road King and put the HD SG front and rear suspension on it, runs nice on the highways, but as they said above can get a bit harsh in the rough stuff so slow down and no hassles.
I guess I still have a few questions but I am leaning towards a Street Glide rather than a full on Tourer like an Ultra Classic or Limited and I have to weigh it all up.. I'm torn between the looks and practicality...
Can anyone tell me what the ballpark figure would be: to have a a quick release system and TourPak colour matched to the bike would cost?? I'm guessing with that option, possibly a more comfortable seat ( that could come later) after I rode it for a fair distance to judge for myself. The bike I'm looking at has a detachable back rest and rack.
Rear shocker upgrade (if needed). My better half is about 66kgs.
And a decent set of highway pegs
Lat year in September, I rode a Road King in the US for 400-500k's a day and never got a sore or numb ass. Did 5000k's in all and was never uncomfortable but that was all solo..
Hi Conmore
Last time I looked at the tour pack quick release & colour match set up it was looking around approx. $1300 for the lot, but still haven't done it. I have a good seat for the wife & me & another for just my every day riding.
It comes down to your own personal needs for which bike you get, I got the glide for the look & colour & have never looked back.
Thanks Rick
I fitted the shocks myself which wasn't to bad the cost of the shocks were $1200us back in jan 09. The only problem I had was fitting the pump due to the area on the streety has the Actuator there, so I put it behind the l/h side cover. but later on I then put a cruise control on & had to take the Actuator off & move the pump to the correct location.
The seat I have for the wife is the comfort stitch which has a good size seating area for the passenger. I use the sundowner when I by myself.
Still on the subjest of the Streetie: has anyone had any experience or fitted Legend Air Suspension?
See here: http://www.legendsuspensions.com/Products.aspx?PID=7&VIEW=Product
I guess it's case of deciding between Arnotts and Legend ( which are more expensive initially to buy but way easier to install, I think)
From what I've read on these forums most riders have the Arnotts systems fitted..
Cheers and thanks.
As you said it comes down toi personal preference, there are more makes on the market even a self adjusting system. It all comes down to cost thats why I went with Arnotts over Legend. The gauge is a lot better looking then the arnotts. It took me about 6wks of going through everthing & asking question on the american forums be for I went Arnotts.
Have fun making up your mind & good luck
Rick
