just curious how many there are on the streets of oz
Not many mate..
I live in Sydney and had mine for 2 months now.
I have never seen another IRON on the road ever since they have come out!
furthermore ive only ever seen 2 nightsters also...and they have been out for longer than the Irons.
I am in Wollongong and have not seen any others on the road. Not surprised given the four months I waited for mine to be delivered.
Brucey - "But lets face facts value for money wise you get a very stylish v twin fuel injected belt drive package with lots of hop up items available reasonably cheaply and is cheap to insure and run hey its right in the ball park it handles well is comfortable to ride and if you licence has only a coule of points left its the ideal bike " - Could not agree more. Coming off a Ducati I can't believe how cheap the Harley is to buy and run. And riding it is just so much fun. Never really 'got' the whole Harley thing until I rode this bike...now I am starting to understand what its all about.
Couldnt agree with you more bucket!!
Its great that nightsters and irons arent that common....... Yet!!
Its actually ironic to see that the more expensive bikes are the common ones!
Confused me for a minute.
I thought you meant REAL iron. Not the plastic new one the HD Marketing department is selling now.
How can HD get away with trading on history in this fashion ???? An Iron Sportster would be made out of real Iron, not alloy and plastic.
Ford should consider Marketing their next Fiesta as a Phase III HO !!!!!
With apologies in advance to anyone who thinks I'm dumping on them or their bike.
Hey Damon,
You could be right there. It's probably the XR I was thinking of. Gotta laff. My older brother rang me whenthey were released and told me they were doing "Replcia" XR's ! (He knows how keen I am on those things). I strolled into Wackers to have a look see and
Viola !
There, in all it's glory. Just like a real XR !
Well, maybe not "just". Ass end is not much wider than a stock K7 Honda 4. Tank has no more plastic than a Suzuki Hayabusa. As raw edged as a HoneyDew melon.
But HD only follows what the market wants. So be it. I'll live in the past (as all us old farts do) and race Hysterics. But I do think it's sad that HD trade so much on their history. It's not fair to the 18 year old kids today. They should be building their own legends.
Guy up the road from me bought one of those new fangled Rockets.
I walked from one end to the other (did it in under a day ! I'm still pretty fit) and just marvelled at the thing. First thing that came to mind was that for years I'd been riding bikes that were like Corvettes (both the cars and the ships) but here was an entire Aircraft Carrier ! I would have asked to have a ride but I know damn well I'm too old to get it off the sidestand. Thing would have rolled over topof me and crushed me like a fly !
Do they think maybe old farts like me will get all nostalgic like and buy one just becuase of the name ?
Or are they pandering to other guys who heard that name in their dim dark past and think maybe it's much the same ? Only bgger and better ?
Still, I have to feel a bit sorry for bike manufacturers today. The laws stop them from making Sportsters the way they used to. And the market wants smooth and chromey. And BIG !
Unfortunatly, I have an enormous dick and if I bought a new Rocket3 the combination of the two would just overwhelm the entire world.
So they can't sell them to me. And if you can't sell a motorcycle to me, what chance have you got ?
You know I really do NEED 130 BHP. But I just don't want to ride an Aircraft Carrier. And my hips will no longer allow me to climb up on to a 1198 Ducati. (Neither will my wrists)
I keep trying to work out what my next bike will be and it gets harder every day.
Ferrous, just joining the chorus of "No plastic on Iron 883s!". I was pointing out to someone the other day that even the fairing on the left ebneath the seat, which would be way cheaper and lighter in plactic, is a piece pf pressed metal that looks like it came of a a piec eof earth moving equipment. Indestructible.
