Ok got a Wille G Collection timing cover last week for my bike as it's pay week coming up I like to get the matching derby cover now here is my question if I stand the bike upright ( use a block of wood under the sidestand ) and remove the old derby cover will I lose any oil from the primary and should the derby gasket be replaced as well cheers.
You will not lose any oil if you stand the bike upright. It's recommended to change the gasket, but if it looks in good nick, I've always re-used mine.
Hi TC883
I've got an 883 Iron and have been thinking of getting a side mounted licence plate as I hate the way our rear mounted plates spoil the great chopped line... Do you get any grief off the copper's? I heard they can hit you with 2 points and around a $300 fine?
Also does anyone know what size Allen key is used to get the timing cover off? I've tried 3/32 and 5/64 but don't seem to fit properly, also tried a metric 2 and 2.5 but no joy?
Cheers
Thanks TC
I've just ordered the silncer grips and footpegs from fraser, they said that they can get the side mounted licence at around $250? Thought about trying to get it from the US with the $ almost at parity...
Did you fit it yourself or get your dealer to do it? Looks great! I also thought that if I get pulled then I would try and get some sort of an extention bar to move it closer to the back. The law says something about it being visible at a 45 degree angle from both sides, might work.
Thanks for the torx size, I bought a set the other day and will try it now.
Cheers TC

After pipes I reckon the #1 derby cover is the best extra for giving the Iron a touch of class, and it's cheap compared all the other bits that end up mysteriously on your ride.
Thanks for the heads up TC, I'll check that out and fitted the timing cover no probs with the T15 this morning.
Hi Guys
I've just recieved the Black #1 Derby for my 883 from the US. About to go to Bunnings to get the blue loctite. Just wanted to make sure before I start undoing the bolts that the oil isn't going to piss out everywere... So standing the bike on a block to keep it level worked?
Hi AJ and all, this my first post. Great site and read, thanks to all. Just wondering re the derby gasket whether I have a "square" one or not and whether I should change it when I do the primary fluid. My gasket is like a disc in that it is "solid" with no middle hole, just the bolt holes around the sides. Should this be changed as it may have copped a lot of pressure or don't worry about it? Bike is a 95 Superglide (evo). Cheers
