I have a CV carb that I want to fit to replace the original Keihnin. What do I do where the CV vents back into the motor as the Kehnin vents via a tube into the crancase? Any advice appreciated. Is this a job I should be attempting? Cheers Burnzi

EDIT just found my answer Thanx again Kiwidave

Hi kickinon thanx for ur reply I have an 87 FXSTC. Standard with the original kehnin carb. This motor doesnt have the "Breathers" in the head, mine bolts in with I think 1/4 inch bolts, the CV carb I have came off a 95 fatboy so it has the hollow bolts that send the gases back in to the motor to be burnt?? (Probably a wrong description) Jus wonderin what happens here with the tubes out the back of the air cleaner do i disconnect em leave em or what?? Any education welcome Burnzi

i fitted a cv to my 87 flstc 7 years back l dont have the bike any more,
you can still use the standard aircleaner , you dont have to block off the holes in the backing plate, but thats up to you , it wont matter in the running of the bike
, l used a differant aircleaner & backing plate l cant remember what now, what l do remember is l left the hole on top of the carb open (small brass tube) & it ran poorly,
but ran great when l blocked it off, l run cv's on all my old bikes they are easy to tune ,cheap, & run great, so l get a bit confussed when l have to think back to a particular bike,
but it will run without the polution tubes hooked up, Have you got the imfo on drilling out the soft cover plate? on the bottom of the carb.? before you install it? so you can adjust the mixture if needed,

It will have no effect whatsoever.
Just fit the cover with the usual 1/4 bolts, using a suitable washer to ensure retention.
Typically there would be rubber blanks to cover the 1/4 bolts, and to ensure that the cover does not a gap at that point, and seals effectively.
You could just use the breather tubes, and leave them connected to the a/c element, if you wanted. At least that way you would avoid the 1/2 bolt look.
The breather ports in the heads are exit only, utilising a one way "umbrella" valve.
