I've been zapped again for an EPA notice in VIC. I've got Vance and Hines straight shots on my 2008 Sporty.

Does anyone know how to quieten then down so as so beat the test, or quieten them down so I don't get zapped in the future? Don't really want to have to put the original slip ons back on.

Ozroder was talking about adding a valve thingy to pipes to quiet them so less chance of being pinged, but that wouldn't help with the test. Check his posts, or posts about pipes and it'll be there. If you keep getting pinged I'm guessing some SOB near you keeps ringing up and complaining (I think its two complaints and you get a letter) so lay off the throttle, especially close to home - as the expression goes, "don't shit in your own backyard".

I got the same thing just put on the stocks and went round there no dramas
i have fitted the quiet baffles since then and the loud clacking cam sound has been dulled a bit and note is lower but its not so loud as to piss of people who like to dob you in.
    good luck mate.

I got the same on my 2010 custom, sweet arent they. ive got quiet baffles in them, i think that means would you mind being quiet and dont try and baffle her while she's idling away. all i can suggest is make as much noise as you can, while you can because these fungs are out to getcha

Thanks for the input into this issue. I like the chicken wire quick fix. I've since fitted quiet baffles to the Straight Shots and they make a difference, they take the edge off, but they are still over the 94db, but not by much.

I liaised with the Vance and Hines people and they said that if I could get another layer of baffle wrap or remove the original wrap and replace with thicker wrap, there is no performance issues.

Will get my act together and put a 'how to' for removing slip ons, for non technical numpties like myself.

Just a tip a healthy dose of WD40 will help you get the slip ons off.
also when you put the noisy pipes back on after the trip to the epa for testing make sure you replace the gaskets for the crossover pipes and make sure the header nuts are tight after you ride it for a bit mine loosened enough to create a leak.
    Good luck
    Cheers
