    You mention the word reliable.
    The number one way to maintain reliability, as far as the efi goes, is not to change or add hardware items. The stock system has proven (almost) bullet proof, whereas others have not.
    The best case scenario for an aftermarket "hardware" item, is to be as reliable as the stock system.
    This is where software based solutions rule, as they need no hardware changes.
