For anyone looking at an HID conversion with slimline balasts and bixenon hi/low globes, there's some going real cheap in China, $59.95 for a pair of 35 watters, post free.

This one is specifically for motorcycles and uses the three pin plug as the power supply,,,no need to run a separate power or earth lead.

I've been doing a bit of reading/searching on the net about HID bulbs, as I ride all year round, all weather conditions and ride in area's where the wild life hop. Looking at which way to go to improve the headlight on my bike.

In three years I've hit one and have some very near misses, Luckier than some I guess.

I was interested in the comparison between the cheaper kits around and the real deal from suppliers. Has anyone had both or ridden bikes with one then the other?

Are the guy's that have fitted the kits still happy with them after a couple of years?

Phantom are you still happy with our HD unit?

It maybe propaganda but I found a few sites like this one.
    http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/bulbs/Hid/disadvantages/disadvantages.html

He also has this to say about the kits.

Just interested in what others think?

bertie, if ya haven't already seen these posts in the product review forum ya might be interested.

As far as HID conversions go, I've bought and installed a few of the sets from China and Hong Kong ,  H4 HI/Low Bi-xenons, H3's and H7's and had no problems with failures or beam paterns. Biggest hassle with HID is finding space/room to fit the balast and igniter on a bike.

Still running them in both my Fords and as happy with them now as when first installed. One of them has the H4 Hi/Low headlight on the outsides and the H7 high beam on the inside and I find that I rarely use the 100 watt LightForce spots now when traveling on high beam, not really needed.

Taken the HID out of the Widey because I've upgraded to the H-D LED 5 3/4 inch headlight insert and a couple of small Cree 5 spoties.

I found the H-D LED to be far better than anything else I've tried so far.

I agree with the author of the web site that you linked, in as far as the end result is very dependant upon the quality of the reflectors used, but that goes for halogen or HID alike. I had no problems with beam spread or glare with HID. (Maybe I was lucky and jagged the good ones?)

In saying that I never went beyound 35 watt 4300 K with the HID's but did find them far better than any of the high performance plus halogen/xenon type globes.

You sounded a bit doubtful of the sites you linked to, well I felt that too, it sounded a bit like a guy that has been stocking and selling  good quality headlights and spotties for a long time has come up against a bit of competition and is a bit sour about loosing some of the market. His claims may be valid for the time of his copyright and updates, but I personally haven't experienced any of those problems, then again, I'm not a self proclaimed experienced consultant in the field of automotive lighting science and technology, setup, regulation, development, history and modification.

(I just like to ride at night with out bumping into grass-hoppers or cattle.)

What he sells and reccomends is no doubt one of the older and proven bits of lighting technology that was extremely successful in it's time and is still a good product.

And as far as legality goes, I wonder how he gets on recomending and selling those ,,,,,, 130/100's for an H4 headlight?

Thank very much for your insight into the topic, Rider. Think I will get some prices on the HD Led.
