Looking for a bit of advice......

I am keen to get the bike stabilised and have decided to spend some hard earned cash (cough) on shockies...

The two I am looking at are:
    ·         Ikon 7610-SP8
    ·         Fournales HD All Alloy

I believe I have managed to obtain good pricing on both and would be happy buying either, but my question: are the Fournales worth say and extra 20%-30% one might pay over the cost of Ikon?

The other question relates to length... 11”, 11.5” or 12”?

The other changes for the moment will be progressive spring and fork brace.

I have Ikon's on my bike , Great Shocks , I did have a problem with the Chrome coming of one of the Springs 15 months after fitting them .

I notced the rust spot on the  Spring a week before the Bike was going on display at the Austrialian Motor Cycle Expo, I jumped sraight on the phone and rang  Geoff at Ikon on a Saturday morning he offered open his shop after hours that next Sunday morning just to repair the Shocks just so I could still get the bike into the show.

I was expecting a bill for his time and the replacement Springs , but no he stands by his product 100%

I do wonder about guys who Import there own Shocks because of warranty issues that they may have later down the track.
    Buy Aussie I say

Hey HO, I think you'l find that changing your ape hangers to something a bit lower will help the handling of your bike a lot as well.

Oops gone of thread I got progressives and they seem to be AOK.

Hi karl... thanks for the input from left field ..... more research!!! I have heard nothing but good comments from Andy, cept when someone had played with adjustments  of course. Just not keen on th looks, especially as I'm trying to keep the old school looks. Anyway just fired an email off for input on recommendations.

OK... looked at the True-Track system and something interesting to note:

When changing oil filter do not allow oil to run on the front motor mount. The addatives in the oil break down the bond between the rubber and the steel spacer. The rubber mount then fails and extreme vibration occours.... "a customer who changed oil evry 1,000 miles had 3 motor mounts fail in 5000 miles".

Will give you a tingle Daza as it is a crap web site and confusing

    Information from Ohlins

I don’t see anything from Öhlins for this bike specifically.
It is a “twin-shock” bike, so we could probably make a custom set of shocks. We would need some basic dimensions such as:
Eye to eye length & bike weight
Depending on the shock ‘type’ we use prices will be as follows:
    S36D:
    S36E:
    S36K:
    S36PL:
    S36PR1C1LB:
Since this bike is a “twin-shock” design we have quite a bit of flexibility in design. Most of the shocks come standard with black springs. Öhlins yellow color is available in most cases. These springs are set up for rider weight & riding style before shipping at no extra cost.

Looking at the pricing he gave me I think I am possibly still better off with Fournales... but with reserve any decision

hey ho stick to stock lengths otherwise your rake @trail will change effecting your handling ,theres no single cure for wobbles @wallows .a stocker is for speed limits and smooth roads , fork springs, fork oil, fork brace, dampner all these add to handling improvements ,aswell as true track .good shocks on back is first step.fournales ,ohlins ,workperformance, ikon ,these would be my first choice ,ive got pair of progressive 440 heavy duty as spares if u want to try .they good for two up.its trial@error mate ,but the advice given is all sound

oh yeh ho ohlins has lots of adjustments ,most of the troublr comes from the engine vibes transfering to frontend as u see when u start the rest is too flexible motor transfering vibes to swingarm or big tuning fork

If you want the best handling go with Ohlins shocks and Race Tech springs and valves. You dont see too many GP/Superbikes with Icon or Fournales!

I've put up a few K's on my Fournales and can only say they are a great shock. 1 up or 2 up, loaded or not, no problems. I do have a pump so a bit of mucking around with pressures to find the "Sweet spot" for solo or 2 up has paid off. An easy way to find what length shock you need is (Eye bolt to eye bolt centre) lift bike so rear wheel is just off the ground, and measure.
