Has any got a Accel SLM tuner on their bike.

I'm looking to buy one in the next month or so and would love to hear about their thoughts on them.

Anyone with before and after comparisons? Comments on how their bike runs now. Hot/cold, MPG, throttle response.

I found a SLM03 for $399US from a seller on Ebay that would post to Australia, so i placed the order, now he is saying he has not got any in stock and doesn't know how long before he gets more in. Disappointing!

Had bike dynoed yesterday. It's lean for the bottom half of the rev range. I will post graph as soon as I get it. Printer on dyno stopped working. SLM finally arrived today. Will install it on weekend.

Before this install I was getting about 44mpg. But like I stated previously it was running a bit lean, popping on decel and occasionally hiccuping and missing. This started after the last mod's I made.

I've added a S&S Desperado air cleaner and modified the stock pipes. Due to being in Australia and everything for HD being very expensive. I made an adapter plate out of Aluminum for the air cleaner as the one I got was for a carbed bike.

I cut the back plate out of the stock mufflers and removed all the baffling, I rode it like that for a couple of days. The booming exhaust note was too much on the highway. So I tried different size hole in the new end cap 1 3/4" hole then 1 1/2" hole and finally a 1 3/8" hole got the exhaust note to a bearable level.

Instruction for the install of the SLM are straight forward. Took some time to run wiring through neatly. Very tight fit above battery.

Bike started fine. Will do some miles tomorrow and post some more as i go.

Just a quick note, I have seen people post complaints about the check engine light coming on after starting the bike. In the instructions it tells you about the start up diagnostic system check mode the SLM dose every time the bike is started and it will flash the fuel injection light (check engine light depending on model) as a part of its checks.

Ridden bike about 100Km (60mile). Feel good. No hiccuping or missing this morning in the cold. The throttle response feels sharp and it feels like a have gotten back the bottom end power I lost when I opened the pipes up. Also I didn't notes any decel popping under heavy engine braking.

So far it looks like a good thing. I clock up about 500Km (300mile a week) so after a couple of weeks Ill get the bike on the dyno again and do a comparison.

I took a heap of photo's so when if I figure out how to post them I will do a new thread for the install of the SLM.

    sporty dyno" />

Finally got print out. Two runs where done, the first is in red with no sniffer up the exhaust, the second with the AFR sniffer up the pipe.

By all the sites I can find my little 883 should have had around 55 horsepower. Mine on the local dyno made 50 horsepower. Undecided.  results do vary dyno to dyno.  Anyway it did show my concern, the bike was running lean. I was getting about 44 mpg. Ive now done over 500 mile with the SLM and the economy is a little better so far, and it feels like it pulls harder.  The proof will be in the dyno, so I book the bike in for dyno in two weeks for a comparison.

Pick up 1 HP, a couple of torque. AF ratio better, down to 14 but not where I wont it.

I found this on the Accel site in tech support FAQ.

    Q) What is the target air/fuel ratio on the SLM module fuel injection tuner?

    A) The SLM unit operates along with the factories preset fuel/ignition calibration files, along with the Delphi's "ION" ignition system. The SLM module and Delphi ECU are trying to produce a stoichiometric mixture of air to fuel ratio of 14.7 to1 with/no load, and with load the reading may be as low as 12.8 to 13.5 as an example. The SLM module has a closed throttle mode which will exceed above the 14.7 to 1. value, which the air to fuel ratio will reflect the factories preset fuel/ignition calibration files.

Tuner I have spoken to like to see the AF ratio between 12 and 13 at WOT.

Been in it touch with Accel tech support to no avail. Could not get any straight answers to my Questions.
My final comment on the Accel SLM, It's a good fine tuner, but thats all, a 'fine' tuner! I don't believe it can cope with any more than basic changes. Good for Stock bikes and one with a good breathing air-cleaner or exhaust, With both it may just get it back to Harley's standard lean settings.

Cheers Hilly, Live and learn! :)

They are a good auto tuner for the money, fine for stock and easy breathing streeters, good idea for people who do not want to tune their bike or dyno them.

I will keep it on the bike for now, and will have a closer look at TTS and others, I'll go through it all again when I upgrade the bike with a 1200 kit and cams.
