Dyna forward controls or highway pegs?

Im just trying to work out which way to go on my 99 FXDL. The bike currently has mid controls and no highway pegs. My dilemma is, should i switch to forward controls, or just fit a pair of highway pegs? Ive ridden a superglide with highway pegs on an engine guard, which i found slightly too forward, but ive never ridden a Dyna with forward controls (only a softail), or frame mounted highway pegs. Obviously, the pegs will be cheaper than forwards, but im just looking for peoples experiences and opinions with both. Im about 170cm / 5'9" tall, and i dont want to be too stretched with forwards, but the mids seem almost as squashy as my old jap bike. I dont just wanna look cool, i want to still enjoy riding the bike!

At least with forwards ur feet are on ur controls, with highway pegs u gotta move in a hurry to get to brake and gears, bad idea, but thats jus my opinion.

gotta agree with burnzi on this,go for the forward controls you wont regret it,to much hassel to get feet back to controlls with just highway pegs, just my opinion though.

What about cornering clearance? At the moment with the mid controls i can lean the bike over a fair bit for a harley. I dont want to make to the bike scrape pegs going round a roundabout. Do the forwards sit lower than the mids? Also, how hard is the conversion? I was thinking if i went with forwards, i'd buy genuine so they'd definately fit well. Ive never ridden a wideglide, but im told its the same setup. I dont want to pay a shop big $ to do the job if its not hard

     Money well spent?

    Highway Pegs- Gotta be kidding!

    Original Fwd Controls- Yeah Man!!

Scrapping Fwd controls: Only After I've ground the primary in half on the left side and on the right side exhaust is cut in half from scrapping

Daddyo, I've got an 07 Street Bob and recently had the same dilemma.

I agree with obiwan try the highway pegs first. I found them to be comfortable and user friendly.
Plus you still get to use the mids in tight traffic or for spirited riding in the twistys or in my case chasing mates on sporties.

I like the logic of trying the highway pegs first. It makes sense i guess. I suppose if i didnt want mid controls i probably should have bought a wideglide or softail. Thats what i like about the Dyna bikes, they are more versatile. My mate has an 08 fatboy, and he cant lean it over anywhere near my lowrider. A motorbike that cant lean over might as well be a car.

Yup he's not gonna recover from that ... slow down and enjoy the ride.

What i meant about my mate's Fatboy was that it scrapes the boards at a much lesser angle than my Dyna scrapes the pegs (ie roundabouts etc). The faster you take a given corner the more angle the bike needs, and i was just trying to find out what effect forward controls would have on "sportier" riding compared to the stock mids. My mate is a pretty good rider, i was just pointing out the lean limitations of a Fatboy compared to a dyna.

Put h/way pegs on the lowrider and now have the best of both worlds especially on long trips, could'nt do without the mid mounts now, just my 2cents worth. Its easier and cheaper to throw on a set of h/way pegs and if ya dont like em put forwards on...........
