Hey guys. Has anyone imported from the US and pre 89 bike? I would really appreciate any advice on the compliance stuff. My understanding is that pre 89 vehicles do not have to go to a RAW? How is compliance/rego then managed? ( I am in NSW) Is it simply a matter of ensuring things like high beam switch, blinker lenses etc etc are to Aussie standard and then going to a normal workshop for a blue slip? I have been looking for ages for a decent Shovel or even 84/85 Evo with kicker for my project, but am really getting frustrated with whats out there. Have started looking at Cycle Trader in the US and there seems to be some decent bikes around. Have read the advice on importing bikes already posted on this forum, but still think an import is a possible option.

Any info or comments would be a huge help guys. Thanks

Most things are possible, but you have to ask yourself, why are these people in Australia selliing their bike. Have they had difficulties trying to register it. I would preferably buy a previously registered or registered bike in NSW. I will be at Harry`s Friday night if you need advice.

Don't know where you are looking but there are quite a few for sale in Qld. If you are looking for a bike in top knick for a cheap price, you will be looking for a long time. Shovel owners and early Evo owners know what they have and if it has been maintained well, its not going to be cheap. If its a basket case you want, be prepared to throw big dollars at it. My opinion only

As far as i know it is only a Blue Slip for pre89 in NSW.

Then greenslip and rego, along with import papers to RTA.

I will let you know for sure in a few weeks.........

Hi Houndog I bought mine from HD Dev in Melb. Apparently in Vic if its pre 89 you dont have to change speedo. Has to have Engineers ticket and then RWC. Dont know if that helps or not.

Still waitin for my mate to ring me so I can get pics of his shovel. He is rebuilding a motorhome so is flatout. Cheers Burnzi

hey hounddog according to the Engineers paperwork:

The vehicle was imported from the USA with import approval No. _________. The vehicle is in original and unmodified condition. It was assessed to comply with the applicable ADR's and conforms to the standards for registration. Noise and brake tests were conducted with satisfactory results.

    ADR's affected: 7, 33A, 39A.

Not sure on what cost was, sorry. PS test was done with the shotgun pipes that are on it??

To Engineer a Custom Built Bike I.C.V. they charge around $1000.00. That nomaly intails 2 or 3 visits during the Build.
