I've been screwed - parking the bike on the footpath when I'm accosted by a cop who tells me he's booking me for RIDING on the footpath. I tell him I'm not riding on the footpath, I'm PARKING on the footpath which is allowed under Victorian law. He admits that parking is allowed but, because I rode it onto the footpath in the first place, I'm done - $138 fine. I'm taking it to court because it's bullshit - anyone else had a similar experience or can offer some advice?

Never been booked but pulled up at the local Harley dearlership the other day and was asked to move my bike off the footpath because the police had recently been through to book people for it! It is queensland though i guess...

Last time I was in Melbourne, I saw all the scooters on the footpath. I thought it was great I parked everywhere on the footpath, didn't know if I was allowed to or not. Looked pretty funny sometimes with my bike dwarfing the little scooters.

Yep you will be done for that unless both feet appear to be walking the bike and of course you are idling it.

Feet on foot pegs is the legal diffinition of riding i am afraid.

In victoria if you are riding along and stretch your legs, ie remove a foot off the pegs its dangerours riding of course. yep you will be fined.

With your fine write a letter applying for a caution i added some notes about it on a post a week or so ago a best letter from the cops or such.

PS a couple of mates that worked in elizabeth st for the bike shops where very carfull to apply to this rule and never used to ride along the foot path one foot ie up the gutter and kill it

    Good luck matey

You legally must walk your motorcycle once you leave the road/driveway onto a footpath in Victoria.
It is the rule - go to your local RTA and they have pamphlets on the footpath parking laws. I had a cop mention it to me (he was quite cool about it) but I said I was still in the driveway and he simply said "good point." and gave me a thumbs up.
