Like Steamer says depends on what sort of riding you are going to do, touring, bike for work, boulevard cruiser, ect, ect, plus how much you want to spend on a bike will it be brand new or second hand as far as I am concerned all 1200 Sportie's go hard I got a 2004 XL 1200R love the bike double disc brake front end and tacho all came standed on this model I see from your post you don't mind the 1200C very good bike also you said you don't like the 1200R are you talking about the XR 1200 model's or the XL 1200R two very different bikes.

Best buyin tip I can give you is don't rush into the first bike you see test as many as you can work out if you want a carby or fuel injection bike, do you want forward controls like on the 1200C or do you want mid controls that are fitted on bikes like mine and the list goes on what it all comes down to at the end of the day is it will be your money you are spending and you are the only one that's has to be happy with the bike you buy cheers.

I've got a XR1200 and couldn't be happier. As far as looks go it wasn't love at first sight but it's grown on me. There are some good deals on them out there, I rode mine away new for under $13k.

With a set of pipes and efi tweaking, from memory they are around 90hp. Mine will mono / endo, whatever silly shit you're into. Good riding position for both commuting and lairing around. It handles really well thanks to the upside down forks etc etc. Good cheap fun. I'll be the first to admit they aren't everyones cup of tea, that's not always a bad thing though!

    Just my .02

Bought a new 2010 1200 custom in january . Had a test on an Iron,Nightser and custom . Found the custom suited due to forward controls , more padding in seat and bigger 17lt fuel tank. Yes it does scrape on both sides when giving it shit through the black spur or such but that just adds to the pleasure of pushing a sporty hard. It also stops well [so far]. Life gets better the more I ride it so as others have said , test as many bikes as you can and buy what YOU want and injoy ya ride.   Cheers.
