DTC - High Idle

Been experiencing faster than normal idle speed. Bike is MY09 883

Usually after longer rides, ie not a run to the shops and back.

Seems to be connected to bike speed, meaning with clutch lever in and rolling to a stop, engine speed remains high till 5 seconds or so after bike stops.

Checked DTC 's and error code P0505 comes up, which is "Loss of Idle Speed Control".

Just wondered what you fellas might suggest to diagnose a repair.

I have heard that moisture in fuse block can cause similar issue. Pulled some fuses without really knowing which ones specifically relate to the problem.

Any suggestions on where to go from here, fire away....

     Thanks fellas.

    Followed that link Stix, thanks.

I'll get some tomorrow and see how she goes.

    Cleared all DTC

Sprayed some of that "Yuk-Off" throttle cleaner in there. Cleaned it up a treat.
Got it right up there in around the IAC pintle.

Not getting any more codes. But high idle is still there, if only an intermediate presence now.
Might give it another clean and see how she goes.

Failing that, it could be a number of things like, low battery voltage or vehicle speed sensor, throttle cable out of adjustment or improperly adjusted throttle stop.

Mmmmm...... this could be a problem for the dealer.

Will let you know how I go.

    Dave

That process is only for the Drive By Wire Touring bikes with early calibrations. The issue with those was addressed with an updated calibration to cure them.

Gday, get a can of terminal electric cleaner (i think thats what it is called) read the book on how to disarm the alarm and then pull all fuses spary with the cleaner to get rid of the corrison in the fuse box and on the fuses. let dry then apply a good coating of dielectric grease. my 08 custom was doing the same with the high idle i was getting fault codes for the blinkers as well since putting grease in fuse box i haven't had any worry's. i had troubles trying to find dieletric grease by chance i walked into the local hydrolic shop for work and it was up on there shelf. hope this helps

    Just an update on this....

Pulled the air cleaner assembly including backing plate off the throttle body. Cleaned IAC pintle with liberal amounts of throttle cleaner.
Reset the IAC steps by turning ignition off and on as per Stix suggestion. Worked for a time, but threw codes on the next ride.
Next I'm gonna pull the IAC module from the throttle body and give it a decent clean and see how that goes. Got a spare IAC on the way from M&M which will "sit on the shelf" till I need it.

Jim, I'll give that a try, I had heard of this issue on the Yank forums. Did you just pull the fuses located behind the battery cover.
