Sportster alarm system problem, help please

The battery in my 07 sporty went flat recently on a very cold night.  I have now recharged it and it' seems to be holding the charge OK,  but when I turned ignition key to the on position the key symbol warning light on the speedo flashes rapidly.  When I try and start the bike the starter won't engage and all the security system and hazard flashers etc start flashing like crazy.  When I turn the ignition off the key symbol stays on constantly and doesn't flash every few seconds like it's supposed to.  The bike ran perfectly prior to the battery going flat so I don't think there's anything wrong there.  Is there some way of re-setting the security system?  Could there be another problem?   I've read my owners manual and the workshop manual but they don't really say anything about this apart from there might be a DTC problem.  Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Sounds like a fucked relay. Where your fuses are there should be two little black boxes (the relays) and one of them is prolly cactus - they just pull out like a normal fuse, but best to pull the main fuse before doing it.
Moisture gets in there and collects on the relays (wtg Harley) so they go screwy every now and then unless you coat them in dielectric grease. I had it happen (similar symptoms to what you describe) and it cost $10 for the relay from a decent electrical store - supercheap prolly has them though.

Thanks for the tips.  Tried the PIN disarm but it won't let me do it.  The speedo display doesn't change into dashes like it's supposed to and the  flashers just keep going.

I'll try the relays, all the fuses and wiring seems OK as do the fob batteries. (I tried both).

Let us know how you get on. Like I said, my problem not long ago sounds the same as you're experiencing - for 10 bucks its a cheap thing to check.

Thanks for the tip Bonkerz,  took out the relay and it was a bit corroded around the terminals.  Cleaned it up and sprayed some WD40 on it, put it back in and the bike is fine!

I think I'll buy a new one just in case, as you say for around ten bucks it's cheap insurance.  I don't want that shit happening again.

    Cheers,

Very cool - that cost me $40 at the auto-electrician (still cheap) to find out myself (saved money by buying my own relay and fitting it afterwards) so its good to get my money's worth by passing it on.
