Best chance of spotting a few that i know of would be maleny, the bridge near the pub or anywhere in that area, behind woolworths and the pub should be ok, just remember not to make any noise, they're pretty shy critters.

Nothing local but if you're up to a bit of a trip to the best lookin bit of country in Aus, Head west to Roma then north through Injune and on to Canarvon Gorge. It's fuckin spectacular and there are platipus in the creek just above the main swiming hole and other parts of the creek to. They're sneeky little critters and very shy so Shhhhhhhhh. It's 900km and allow a couple of days there to take in the sights. There's a camping ground and a lodge with a well stocked bar close by.

The creek in Malaney has heaps of them living in wild. Thats why there was such a shit fight when they built the new Woolworths.

If you go down isle 4, just past the toilet paper, but before the frozen foods section, you find a family of platapie (Plural) living under the tinned soup section.

Went up to Maleny this am.went to Woolies...aisle 4..found the tin of platypie in the can fish section (eating same as we type).Went behind woolies and the pub and found an old stove and a crab pot (complete with a freshwater cray..again..yummy) and a Mary river Cod (but it swam faster than I could run in the creek after it).

Then went to the boardwalk and looked in the creek there and found several burrows....heading back tomorrow about 5:30am to see if they are about . I would like to see 3 or 4 cos they are pretty small and I'd need that many for a hat.

A friend of mine has a double bed spread made entirely from platty skins been handed down through his family from his great grandfather. There are still some in the creek where his great grandfather trapped/shot them. I have taken overseas visitors to see them. Surprisingly we see em more when the river is up and in flood.

What about any Ornithorhynchus? See any of those?

On a serious note they can still be found in rivers/creeks on the northern side of Brisbane if you know where to look. Some in the South Pine River around Albany Creek.
