Seem to recall cracked engine cases, don`t remember where, knew a guy who got new cases on warranty a while ago.

Thanks mate, have been looking at Shovels, but this thing came along, its a kicker so ticks that box. Yank Forum talks them up, but always good to hear from the locals!

yep cases some lasted 200,klms fairly common as they aged ,the best evos like shovells were the last models.but a rebuild can fix em

I guess by this stage, if the cases are still ok its either been rebuilt or had a good set to start with. Im always wary of 1st model anything, hence the questions. Thanks guys much appreciated

mines a 84 softail, major thing i found is the swingarm is 84 to early 86 ONLY, and the rear of the frame is different to suit the swingarm, don't be thinking you can just whack a later swingarm on to go wide tyre cause you can't, i found that out, 4 speed box with kicker was standard on softy, my engine is the original and so far no bottom end issues

I had an 85 soft tail and never had any issues with it in the 2 years I had it except 3rd gear was abit of a bitch
