Thanks to everyone who has provided some advice comparing the Fatty Lo with the Deluxe or Heritage. Now I've decided the Lo is out (only because of the lower suspension - love the look), the Fat Bob has come on my radar. Any comments? How does it perform with that big knobby front tyre? Price is pretty good at the moment and I like the look (not so sure about the forward controls).
Subject: What do we think of the Fat Bob? Not much considering we own softails and this is a softail forum thread!!
Go with the delux as per the advice from long term owners, JMO.
I think the Fatbob looks fantastic. If i was up for a new bike it would def be among the top three.
Are you on drugs!!!!
Is this what happens when you get really, really old. Every time a bike cruises past thats the last thing on your mind so thats the bike you want
Mate FOCUS, ok FOCUS, you were looking at the Deluxe but you really wanted a Heritage. Heres a picture, now commit this to memory. Fuck, I dont want to get older.
Look into her chrome....look into her chrome....you are getting dribbly....you want a heritage...
Harrysboy, this thread is a follow up to my queries about Softies so I wanted to ensure the same geniuses and experts that were helping me out there saw it.
Dragon et al...thank you for your well meaning advice - as Ronald Reagan once said "If you don't mention my age I won't mention your inexperience". Hey wait on, that doesn't work. I've got the age AND the inexperience. Bugger. Sorry ol' mate that Fat Bob is starting to do things for me.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Hehehe, where's Nancy...
You've still got to decide what you want the bike for, dont you Taff. You want to wind through the bends, or you want to cruise and take the wife in comfort. But still, just take them all out for a ride. Once done, you will know what you don't want. And then you can sift through what you want to do on the bike and the remaining items. I cut some out for varing reasons, and in the end, the Heritage was the answer. And if I really wanted, I could strip off all the extras, and it would still look sweet. Ive seen a couple of real nice stripped down heritages.
Now that you have looked at bikes that are not softails I can make this really easy for you.
Get a Road King.
Now you need to start a thread to help you decide between wide whitewalls and spokes or thin whitewalls and mags.
cheers Surly
Hmmm this is a funny thread, Yes its for softails, now forgive me if I am wrong but wasnt the design of the softail meant to reflect the rigid bikes of yesteryear? And as a result we put up with not so perfect handling, yes? But we still have that motor that has a heritage that goes back over 100 years. To me all of the harley range have their good and bad points. I rode my Heritage over Hotham and hated it, too much scraping and too slow and nearly cooked the brake fluid. I rode my fx over and loved it, I could crank the corners a lot quicker, now if I was on a sporty and 1 up and no gear on board, that would be a buzz. Of course if I was going to Darwin, I will take my mates 2004 Roadie with the windscreen on.
I love the look of the Fat bob, the Heritage/ deluxe/ nostalgia, and the new iron, but have never been overawed by the Fattie even though its the biggest seller usually. Then again add the Heritage lights and some big saddle bags to the Fattie and suddenly I want one.
Just my daydreaming (bike for every day of the week) 2cents worth.
Now choppers hmmmmmm.
